Wednesday, November 30th, the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat play for the second of four scheduled meetings this season. Boston won the initial meeting 111-104.
This is a baseball set with Boston hosting again on December 2nd while Miami hosts the final meeting on January 24th.
The Celtics last played Monday, thumping the Hornets 140-104 while the Heat beat the Hawks 106-98 on Sunday.
Last season, the squads played three times with Boston taking two of the three contests. The Celtics hold the advantage all-time having won 79 times of the club’s 130 meetings.
Miami Heat
In contrast to their opponent, the Heat have struggled to start the season navigating several injuries, including their superstar Jimmy Butler who missed the last six games with a sore knee.
Collecting wins without Butler is difficult but Bam Adebayo and Kyle Lowry have stepped up as leaders while the return of Tyler Herro from his own eight-game injury absence helped.
They’ve won three in a row and despite what their current defensive stats show they still are a tough defensive squad that will only get better as they get players back (especially Butler). The fact he’s listed as questionable on some injury reports is encouraging.
Offensively, the Heat score 108.4 points per game (28th rank) shooting 44.8.% from the field (26th) and 33.2% from the perimeter (25th).
Defensively, the Heat allow opponents to score 108.9 points per game ranking eighth. Miami opponents shoot 47.5% from the field (18th) and 34.8% from the perimeter (10th).
Jimmy Butler (knee) and Duncan Robinson (ankle) are questionable for Wednesday. Victor Oladipo (knee), and Omer Yurtseven (ankle) are out indefinitely.
Boston Celtics
In NBA history only nine players have ever reached the efficiency holy grail of shooting 50% from the field, 40 percent from the perimeter, and 90 percent from the charity stripe.
Putting in perspective just how lethal this Celtics offense is consider their team efficiency in these areas… 49.6% from the field, 40.3% from deep, and 85.2% from the free throw line.
In other words, they are 0.4% (field goal percentage) and 4.8% (free throw percentage) short of reaching that mark!
They’re clicking at a different level, and don’t need both stars to dominate as they demonstrated in the recent back-to-back with Jayson Tatum sitting versus the Wizards and Jaylen Brown sitting versus the Hornets winning by nine and 36 points respectively.
Boston possesses the top-ranked scoring averaging 121.3 per game as well as the best perimeter efficiency of 40.3%. The Bean Town crew ranks third shooting 49.6% from the field.
Defensively, the Celtics allow opponents to score 112.9 points per game ranking 14th. Boston allows their opponents to shoot 46.9% from the field ranking 17th and 35.1% from the perimeter ranking 12th overall
Jaylen Brown (neck) and Al Horford (back) are questionable. Robert Williams III (knee) and Danilo Gallinari (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Miami Heat vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
Both teams are on winning streaks and baseball sets typically end in splits so while it’s unlikely one team escapes Friday still unbeaten there is the added dynamic of the rivalry between these clubs.
Let’s not forget the Heat were one missed Jimmy Butler bucket from being the squad who represented the East in the Finals last season. Still, without Butler, it’ll be a tough task for Miami to garner the split but if any team can channel their grit on the road it’s the Heat.
I’m hesitant to go full bore on the Heat not knowing Butler’s status so I’ll take the points and the Heat but the Celtics to win. BUT… if Butler suits up all bets are off on the winner.
