Tuesday, November 22nd, the Los Angeles Lakers and Phoenix Suns face off in the first of four scheduled meetings. Phoenix will host again on December 19th while LA will host on March 22nd, and April 2nd.
Both teams last played on Sunday with the Lakers beating the Spurs 123-92 while the Suns defeated the Knicks 116-95.
Last season, the squads played four times with the Suns sweeping the regular season series. The Lakers hold the advantage all-time having won 146 times of the club’s 259 meetings.
Los Angeles Lakers
After missing 13 games with thumb injuries both Dennis Schroder and Thomas Bryant returned to the court to play in the last two games. They each struggled in their initial minutes/game but were much better against the Spurs.
Schroder offered 13 points, two rebounds, two assists, and a steal while Bryant almost registered a double-double (15 points, 9 rebounds) in just under 23 minutes.
LA allows opponents to score an average of 114.2 points per game ranking 19th. Their opponents shoot 46.3 percent from the field which ranks tied with the Thunder at 17th, and 33.1 percent from behind the arc ranking fourth overall.
The Lakers made a huge jump offensively from 26th in scoring per game (111.1 points) up to 17th. They jumped six spots for field goal percentage shooting 46.1% (20th) but remain the worst perimeter shooting squad (31.2%).
Take your pick of LeBron James’ injuries as he’s been listed both for his foot and groin – regardless he’s questionable for Tuesday. Juan Toscano-Anderson (back) and Max Christie (quarantine) are also questionable.
Phoenix Suns
Devin Booker is carrying the load for the Suns with the team missing Chris Paul and Cam Johnson as the club split the four games from last week with wins versus the Warriors and Knicks versus losses to the Heat and Jazz.
In the four matches, he averaged 30.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, 6.8 assists, a steal, a block, and hit 2.8 triples.
Much of the reason for the Suns’ dominance is coming on the defensive end as they hold opponents to 107.9 points per game which ranks fifth-best.
Opponents shoot 45.7% from the field where they are tied with the Hawks and Cavaliers in ninth but they’ve dropped significantly in their perimeter defense to 27th as opponents shot 38.4 percent.
Offensively, Phoenix rebounded a bit this week to rise back into the top 10 for scoring putting up 115.1 points per game ranking 10th overall. From an efficiency standpoint, they shoot 47.2% from the field and 37.9% from the perimeter ranking 11th and eighth respectively.
Chris Paul (heel) and Landry Shamet (concussion) were both downgraded to out Tuesday. Jae Crowder (trade request) is away from the team and Cameron Johnson (knee) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Lakers are 5-10 ATS in their last 15 games.
- The Suns are 10-4 ATS in their last 14 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 7 of the Lakers’ last 10 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 4 of Phoenix’s last 6 games.
Free Los Angeles Lakers vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
Anthony Davis has been on a tear scoring 37 (Nets), 38 (Pistons), and 30 (Spurs) in the last three games. Granted two of those teams are tanking and Brooklyn was missing Kyrie Irving playing the second game of a back-to-back set.
Once again they get the advantage of an injury-riddled Suns squad but they have enough depth to remind the Lakers of what it takes to belong in the upper echelon.
