The Nets are getting all the buzz right now but I am not sure they are even the best team in their division.
Meanwhile, the Lakers are looking just as good as they did in the playoffs, even though they have changed a lot of the cast surrounding LeBron and A.D.
This should be a great game to kick off a short Thursday slate.
Los Angeles Lakers
The Lakers are having another strong regular season. One thing that stands out is that they are a perfect 7-0 on the road so far.
Not sure the reason for that but it does not surprise given that this is a very veteran group.
L.A. and Milwaukee win because they are two of the most complete teams in the league. The Lakers are 6th in scoring and 3rd in points allowed.
As compared to last year the production of the two Lakers stars has been down. There is nothing to worry about there. I think it is purely a matter of them not playing a ton of competitive games and resting them when they can.
L.A. is off a surprising loss to Golden State and is now on the road playing an elite team. That could make this a spot to fade the champs.
The Lakers are only an average free throw shooting team and that might have cost them in the loss, they missed 9 free throws.
They also need to find a way to turn Wesley Matthews back into a serviceable player. They could use some more three-point shooting
Milwaukee Bucks
Milwaukee lost by a bucket at Brooklyn on Monday. That one has to sting a little too as they certainly went for it with all of their starters playing more than 30 minutes and Giannis almost 40.
He had a typical Giannis game with 34 points and 12 rebounds. He is just 6th in scoring but similar to L.A. it might be more about managing him for the season and playoffs an not burning him out too soon. Even though when you watch him play that seems impossible.
Helping is that the Bucks now have two reliable scorers in support. Khris Middleton is averaging 22ppg but Jrue Holiday just 16ppg. I am expecting that number to rise as the season progresses. He has done it in the past and is just such a good player that you can play him in every situation.
I love Bobby Portis on this team as a much cheaper version of the Lakers Montrezl Harrell. He might not have that maniacal energy but he shoots it better and has more size. If he keeps playing well he will get some 6th Man of the Year consideration. These teams can really match up with each other well
