Saturday, November 4th, finds the LA Clippers facing the Sacramento Kings for the second time in a home and home series. In the initial match on December 1st, the Kings prevailed 124-115 at Staples Center.
While the Kings haven’t played since that Wednesday match in LA the Clippers are playing a back-to-back set that featured a 119-115 victory versus the Lakers on Friday.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Clippers winning two of the three contests. The Kings hold the all-time record having bested the Clippers in 118 of their 218 matches.
Paul George was back in the lineup on Friday to face their Staples co-habitants the Lakers and spur his team toward a victory ending their three-game losing streak.
George led the way with 19 points, eight rebounds, nine assists, and two steals. Marcus Morris provided 21 points including six 3-pointers.
The Clippers took the lead from the tip and never trailed although the Lakers threatened to steal the victory but weren’t able to push ahead despite LeBron James and Anthony Davis both playing.
James who was expected to be in quarantine was back with the Lakers stating he had received a false positive COVID test result and provided eight consecutive negative tests afterward, while AD played through a thumb injury that had him listed as questionable.
Although the Lakers superstars each registered double-doubles for a combined 50 points, 20 rebounds, 10 assists, and three steals it was the Clippers “others” who stepped up particularly from the perimeter as they connected on 16 of 35 deep balls.
Luke Kennard offered 19 points including five 3-pointers, Reggie Jackson scored 16 points adding eight assists, and Serge Ibaka also hit three deep balls.
Nicolas Batum is still in health and safety protocols having missed seven games and is expected out again on Saturday. Jason Preston (foot) was downgraded to out Friday and questionable versus the Kings.
Since taking over coaching Alvin Gentry’s club is 3-3. In the three wins, Sacramento averaged 130 points. Removing the three overtime quarters versus the Lakers the average is still a robust 116.3 points while holding opponents to points 112 points (minus overtime).
In stark contrast, in the Kings’ three losses they averaged 99 points but allowed 115.6 points. Clearly, the Kings want to get into a track meet and keep the pace high so opponents should be trying to do the opposite by slowing the pace and focus on defense.
In the win versus the Clippers, all five starters and reserve Davion Mitchell scored in double-figures. De’Aaron Fox led the way with 24 points, three rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one block.
Richaun Holmes (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Tyrese Haliburton (12 points, 11 assists) each contributed double-double performances. Terence Davis (23), Mitchell (20), and Chimezie Mezu (13) were the other double-digit performers.
Harrison Barnes (foot) and Marvin Bagley III (illness) are questionable for Saturday while Mo Harkless (knee) was downgraded to being out.

Free LA Clippers vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
It’s revenge time for the Clippers who owe the Kings payback for that beatdown on Wednesday. Ty Lue needs to reinforce with his roster to focus on defense and be particularly diligent at slowing the Kings in transition.
Sacramento has the rest advantage and the knowledge the Clippers are 0-3 on the second games of back-to-back sets but I’m banking on the revenge being a motivating factor.
