Sunday, November 7th, finds the Houston Rockets playing the Golden State Warriors for the first time this season.
The Rockets enter on the second game of a back-to-back set having pushed the Nuggets to the brink but falling 94-95 while the Warriors last played Friday pounding the Pelicans 126-85.
Last season, the teams played three times with Golden State winning all three contests. The Rockets have won 126 of the 233 matches played between the clubs all-time.
Houston Rockets
While the Oklahoma City Thunder are intent on tanking to win the top draft pick they’re actually performing better to this point in the season with an extra victory. Mind you the lone win by the Rockets was against the Thunder.
There is plenty of young talent on the Rockets but they fall prey to their youth often getting into your turn – my turn situations and forgetting there are two ends of the court.
They shared the ball more in Denver with five players reaching double-figures and Daniel Theis the high scorer with 18 points. Christian Wood delivered a double-double of 12 points and 17 rebounds.
Rookie Jalen Green struggled particularly from the perimeter where he was 0 of 5.
Despite the loss, this was one of the Rockets’ better games. They stayed with Denver throughout the game taking the first quarter by a single point, tying the second, and fourth quarters and losing the third by two points which gave the Nuggets the one point they needed to win.
Houston still had the ball in their hands for the last shot but they seemed to panic under the pressure from Denver and when they finally got the ball to Jae’Sean Tate his shot was blocked by Nikola Jokic.
Golden State Warriors
The Warriors are now 3-1 on their eight-game homestand and looking every bit like a force in the West. The sight of Klay Thompson warming up pregame in full uniform offers intrigue for just how good these Dubs can be.
Like they did during their five NBA Finals appearances this Golden State Warriors team relies heavily on player and ball movement along with lockdown defense.
The team has a cemented identity and the youngsters on the club benefitted the past two seasons by getting to learn the ropes and it’s showing through seven games with them meshing well.
The biggest change over last season is on nights when Stephen Curry isn’t shooting well his teammates are ready to step up and eager to be in the mix.
Jordan Poole, Damion Lee, and Gary Payton II have all demonstrated they are ready to contribute while the addition of Otto Porter Jr. and the return of Andre Iguodala gives the Warriors a nice mix of youngsters and vets.
In the beat down of the Pelicans, it was one of those off nights for Curry (5 of 15 for 19 points) but Poole rose to the challenge leading the way with 26 points while Payton II (17), Andrew Wiggins (16), and Nemanja Bjelica (13) were the other double-figure contributors.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Warriors are 6-4 in the last 10 head to head
- The teams are 5-4 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
- Over Under is 6-4 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
Free Houston Rockets vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
As great as the Warriors youngsters have been and even though the personnel is drastically different there is history between these clubs and something tells me Steph Curry will be motivated to have “one of those” big games.
Although I do think the Dubs take this easily I wonder if they could jump out to an early win and the Rockets starters end up playing against the Warriors reserves and keep the spread in check.
