The Rockets were one of the four teams to play on Thursday night as part of TNT’s doubleheader. They lost to the Warriors at home to fall another game behind Golden State in the chase for the Western Conference’s best record but the good news is that they won’t play on Friday and get a day to travel and settle into Detroit before playing the Pistons.
James Harden is out, obviously. Gerald Green continues to score in bunches as his replacement, though. He dropped 29 on the Warriors after getting 28 the game before and 22 the game before that. It’s been reported that the Rockets will extend his contract for the rest of the season after they inked him for ten days just last week.
Chris Paul also put a hostile move on David West’s ankles in the game on Thursday night. You’ll want to check that out.
The Rockets will be just fine, but I think it’s starting to set in across the country that they won’t beat Golden State this season. Let’s enjoy what they can give us game-to-game in the regular season, but let’s not ask for too much more than that.
The Pistons lost in Miami on Wednesday night. Andre Drummond was a late scratch with a shoulder problem. Apparently, the shoulder is stable but Drummond has been in a lot of pain. The shoulder shouldn’t get worse, but Drummond won’t return until he can tolerate the pain. He is questionable for Friday.
The Pistons are in Philly on Friday, as most of the rest of the league is in action, too. With the back-to-back, there’s a chance Drummond might only try to give it a go in one of the games. keep an eye on what he does Friday night.
Avery Bradley is back. He shut down Tyler Johnson in the last game against the Heat, but the guy he would have been covering, Goran Dragic, went off in Miami’s win. That’s the lack of flexibility working because of Ish Smith’s limitations, compared to Reggie Jackson.
The Pistons clearly missed Jackson’s offense, too. They don’t really have a good isolation player. Their go-to guy in those sorts of situations to make a play is becoming Tobias Harris with Jackson out and Drummond hurt.

Free Houston Rockets vs. Detroit Pistons NBA Prediction: the Rockets will bounce back and win on the road.
The extra day will help Houston. It may have lost to Golden State, but this team looks all right without Harden for now with Gerald Green playing the way he is. He’s a feel-good story and we hope he keeps cooking for Houston.
