Saturday, January 23rd finds the Houston Rockets play the Dallas Mavericks for the second time this season. In the first match on January 4th, the Mavericks won 113-100.
The Mavericks hold the all-time record between the clubs with 98 wins in 183 meetings. Last season, the teams played three times with the Rockets taking two out of three contests.
Houston Rockets
In the first meeting versus his former Pistons team, Christian Wood had to watch from the sidelines as he nurses a sprained ankle.
Despite his absence and several core players, the Rockets battled to hold off the Pistons and end a three-game losing streak via a 103-102 victory that witnessed seven players reach double-figures.

Eric Gordon led the scoring with 20 points. The other double-digit efforts were provided by PJ Tucker (15), Sterling Brown (14), Victor Oladipo (13), Jae’Sean Tate (13), David Nwaba (13), and Ben McLemore (10).
Christian Wood (ankle) and Dante Exum (calf strain) who missed the last four games are listed as questionable for Saturday.
John Wall will miss his sixth game as he continues to deal with knee soreness.
Brodric Thomas (ankle) and Danuel House Jr. (back) are out indefinitely while Chris Clemons (Achilles) is lost for the season.
Dallas Mavericks
This weekend features battles against the Mavericks Texas counterparts. On Friday they came out on top of the game versus the San Antonio Spurs (122-117). Saturday they’ll complete the back-to-back set tipping off versus the Rockets.
Dallas built a 10-point lead by the half but needed to hang on to the late charge by the Spurs.
Luka Doncic came close to registering another triple-double with his 36 points, 11 assists, and nine rebounds.
While the Mavericks built an 18-point lead they no doubt were experiencing deja vu versus the Spurs. Last season the Mavericks’ biggest struggle in games was retaining leads in clutch time.
As the Spurs cut an 18-point deficit to two points in the closing minutes Dallas demonstrated their growth in this area holding on to retain the lead and capture the victory.
Kristaps Porzingis continues to ease his way back from injury and contributed 21 points, eight rebounds, an assist, steal, and two blocks. The big man shot efficiently on all areas of the court including 7 of 14 from the field, 3 of 5 from deep, and 4 of 4 from the line.
Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 21, Jalen Brunson added 16, and Trey Burke chipped in 13 as the other double-figure contributors. Like many teams in the Association, the Mavericks are dealing with COVID-19 and have four players out.
Maxi Kleber, Dwight Powell, Dorian Finney-Smith, and Josh Richardson have all missed numerous games in the health and safety protocol and remain out indefinitely.

Free Houston Rockets vs. Dallas Mavericks NBA Prediction:
The Mavericks began the season slowly registering 2 wins in six games. Since then they are 6-3 and seem to have discovered a rhythm despite missing several core players.
The Rockets added Kevin Porter Jr. who ran out his welcome in Cleveland.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Mavericks ATS
Having climbed to seventh on the West’s ladder the Mavericks are within striking distance of the Grizzlies, Blazers, and Suns. Another victory this weekend combined with losses by the aforementioned clubs could conceivably move Dallas up to fourth.
That should be all the inspiration the Mavericks need to grab victory Saturday although the 10.5 spread feels a bit rich.
