Monday, December 20th, the Houston Rockets face the Chicago Bulls in their second and final meeting of this season. In the initial November 24th match, the Rockets ended a 15-game losing streak via a 118-113 victory that sparked a seven-game winning streak.
After being off for a week the Bulls got back into action playing the Lakers on Sunday in a 115-110 winning effort. The Rockets last played Saturday in a 116-107 defeat of the Pistons.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Bulls winning both contests. The Rockets hold the all-time record having bested the Bulls in 72 of their 142 matches.
Houston Rockets
This season has resembled a rollercoaster for the Rockets who began the season losing 16 of 17 matches. Since defeating the Bulls the Rockets have won nine of their last 13 matches.
The most significant change during the shift to winning is head coach Stephen Silas is utilizing his veterans more, partially due to circumstance as Jalen Green and Kevin Porter Jr have been sidelined the last 12 and eight games respectively.
On Saturday Houston took down a desperate Pistons club serving them their 14th consecutive loss. Seven Rockets scored in double-figures as the Rockets looked to get back on track themselves having lost four of the last five.
The noon start was also an obstacle with Houston playing their third game in four days. Former Pistons player Christian Wood took the lead for his squad scoring 21 points plus eight rebounds.
Eric Gordon (18), Garrison Matthews (16), David Nwaba (13), Jae’Sean Tate (11), Josh Christopher (10), and Kenyon Martin Jr. (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
Porter Jr (thigh) and Armoni Brooks (ankle) are questionable for Monday while Danuel Hous (ankle) and Green (ankle) are out indefinitely. John Wall remains away from the team as Houston seeks a trade partner or tries to wear Wall down into negotiating a buy-out.
Chicago Bulls
DeMar DeRozan, Coby White, Javonte Green, and Derrick Jones Jr. returned to the hardcourt on Sunday and made an impact. DeRozan looked like he hadn’t missed a beat scoring 38 points connecting on 16 of 17 free throws including two that iced the win.
The veteran guard embraces taking over in clutch time and his cool, calm demeanor permeates throughout his team.
Nikola Vucevic posted a double-double of 19 points and 13 rebounds, while Lonzo Ball (19), Alex Caruso (17) were the other double-figure contributors.
The one area the Bulls suffered was their bench with Carmelo Anthony outscoring the Bulls reserves 21 to 13 but given how shorthanded Chicago is it’s understandable.
Zach LaVine, Alize Johnson, Ayo Dosunmu, and Troy Brown Jr., remain out with only the latter experiencing more than mild symptoms. Derrick Jones Jr. tweaked his hamstring Sunday and is likely out Monday. Matt Thomas (conditioning) is questionable.
Patrick Williams (thumb) is lost for the season.

Free Houston Rockets vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction
Not like the Bulls need any extra motivation but losing once to the Rockets was one thing – – doing it twice would be unacceptable.
