On Monday, January 18th, Inter-Conference foes will meet as the Houston Rockets and Chicago Bulls will face off for the first time this regular season on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The teams met twice in the preseason with the Rockets taking the first (125-104) and the Bulls the second (104-91).
Houston Rockets
Houston turns to the future as they are beginning their post Harden era. James Harden has been a perennial superstar and face of the Rockets franchise since being traded to the team in the 2012-2013 season. His resume includes never missing a playoff appearance and 1 MVP trophy as well as the current three time reigning scoring leader.
The ending of his tenure turned sour as Harden made it evidently clear he no longer wanted to be there and left Houston no choice but to deal the superstar as soon as possible. They eventually ended on 4 future first round picks as well as 4 future first round pick swaps. Along with their surplus of draft capital the Rockets also brought in the talents of Victor Oladipo from Indiana.
Without Harden the Rockets have gone 1-1, splitting their back to back series with the San Antonio Spurs. The team was missing several of their key players including John Wall, Eric Gordon, Daniel House, Demarcus Cousins, and newly acquired Victor Oladipo. Houston has shown heart so far and it will be intriguing to see how hard they continue to fight without their former leader James Harden.

Chicago Bulls
The Bulls have been inconsistent in their first season under new coach Billy Donovan. After starting 0-3 they have split their last 10 to sit at 5-8 and the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference. 4 of the Bulls last 5 games have finished within 5 points or less as the team continues to fight which was not seen in years past under disgruntled former coach Jim Boylen.
In their game on Sunday the Bulls played great together and posted an impressive win (117-101) at Dallas even with Luke Doncic posting an absurd 36-15-15 triple-double. Chicago was led by forward Lauri Markkanen who had his own double-double with 29 points and 10 boards
The Bulls have been led by the superb play of Zach LaVine who’s performance has exploded and is averaging 28.3 points with 4.8 assists per game. He is paired in the backcourt with second year guard Coby White who is averaging 17.7 points and 5.5 rebounds.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Houston is 4-7 ATS this season
- Houston unders are 3-7-1
- Chicago is 9-4 ATS this season
- Chicago overs are 8-5
Free Houston Rockets vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction:
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Bulls OFF
This game is a tough one to predict as both teams have been inconsistent and boast several double digit losses as well as double digit wins.
The Rockets health will place a huge factor in this one and it will be important to monitor their injury report before Monday night to see who’s in and who’s out. Based off the early assumption that Houston will not be at full strength I will ride with Chicago on their home court.
The Bulls have shown fight lately and Zach Levine could be a matchup problem for the young and defensively lacking backcourt of the Rockets.
