Houston Rockets
The Rockets took the Spurs down the the final minute on Saturday but wound up losing on the road, 111–106.
John Wall went 10-of-19 for 27 points to lead Houston. He added seven assists to just two turnovers. Eric Gordon had 26 off the bench. DeMar DeRozan led all scorers with 30.
The loss was just Houston’s second in its last nine games. At 11–11 it is tied with Sacramento as the first team out of the playoffs in the Western Conference.
It was Houston’s first game playing without Christian Wood since he hurt his ankle. The injury report states Wood “will be evaluated on a weekly basis.”
Initially, the injury looked to be severe and while it’s still unclear exactly how much time Wood will miss, the diagnosis has come as a relief.
Still, losing a guy averaging more than 22 and 10 with a .618 effective field goal will not be easy for the Rockets, who have been maximizing their talent of late.
Charlotte Hornets
The Hornets had no problem dispatching the Wizards on Sunday afternoon, 119–97.
Terry Rozier led the team with 26 points off the bench. Gordon Hayward had 25 of his own. Four other Hornets finished in double-figures, including LaMelo Ball, who scored 19.
Devonte’ Graham did not play with a groin injury. His numbers are down after a breakout sophomore season a year ago. The addition of Hayward and Ball have certainly contributed to Graham’s decline, in usage at least.
Cody Zeller started again at center but only played 20 minutes. Bismack Biyombo didn’t play much, either.
Miles Bridges was actually the one to get the lion’s share of the minutes up front. He played 31 off the bench and finished with 11 points and 14 rebounds.
Biyombo may be the best option to bang with DeMarcus Cousins down low in this one, however. Without Wood, Houston will lean more on Boogie and the Hornets may have to go back to their original starting center.

Free Houston Rockets vs. Charlotte Hornets NBA Prediction: Charlotte at home.
Who knows what will come of this game?
It feels like Houston has the more reliable playmakers but it’s close. Charlotte is at home and shouldn’t be too bothered by the back-to-back spot. In fact, it may help to be loosened up after the early tip on Sunday.
So give me the Hornets at home, who may be offered up at a discount price, given the back-to-back circumstances.
