Golden State Warriors
Down eight with less than three minutes to go, Golden State made a run at Dallas on Saturday evening but fell short, 134–132.
Stephen Curry finished 19-for-31 from the field, including 11-of-19 from beyond the arc, for 57 points. He added five assists and turned it over just three times.
But the Warriors were -9 offensive rebounds compared to the Mavericks and Luka Doncic scored 42 of his own.
The Warriors’ troubles on the glass will linger as long as Kevon Looney (ankle) and James Wiseman (wrist) remain out. Even Eric Paschall (knee) can help out on the boards when he’s healthy.
Looney turned his ankle two games back against Boston and will be out for at least another 10 days, likely a little longer. Wiseman should be on his way back this week but it his return could also wait until the next. Paschall’s injury seems to be the least severe of the three.
The Warriors are small with their bigs healthy. Without two of their best rebounders, they are out-matched. In this game against the Spurs, that weakness is likely to be exposed.
San Antonio Spurs
After getting waxed in back-to-back games by Memphis, San Antonio has returned to the win column with two in a row against the Timberwolves and Rockets.
Neither win was easy and the most recent against Houston took DeMar DeRozan capping a 30-point evening with a couple big buckets in the final two minutes.
Of course, the Spurs played without LaMarcus Aldridge, who, in Head Coach Gregg Popovich’s words, “will be out a while.” That should at least even the playing field on the glass in this one a bit.
Lonnie Walker IV did not play against Houston because of a stomach illness. The third-year pro had started every game for San Antonio prior to Saturday’s DNP.
Derrick White, recently back from injury, stepped in to start for Walker and he could do the same in this spot. He hasn’t shot the ball great since returning but has scored in double-digits in three of the four he’s played and has at least five assists in three consecutive.
Jakob Poeltl, who has been starting in place of Aldridge, could have a big game in this one against Draymond Green. The Spurs could also scrap the bigs and go small with the Warriors.

So look for this one to stay fairly close to 200, which, for the Warriors, will be much lower than typical totals. The Spurs should also manage a third win in a row.
