Tuesday, November 30th, finds the Golden State Warriors playing the Phoenix Suns for the first time this season and will play again at Golden State on Friday.
This match takes on a larger spotlight given the Suns arrive on a 16-game winning streak looking to tie their franchise-best 17-wins in a row and potentially break the record against the Pistons on Thursday.
Golden State last played on Sunday in LA beating the Clippers while the Suns last played Saturday in the final game of their four-game road trip that took them to San Antonio, Cleveland, New York, and Brooklyn winning all four contests as part of the win streak.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Suns winning two of the three contests. The Suns hold the all-time record having bested the Warriors in 142 of their 251 matches.
Golden State Warriors
Although the Warriors might have a shorter win streak (seven games in a row) they have an equally strong success story with only one loss in their last 15 matches and two all season.
While the Warriors dealt with more injuries than the Suns their depth has kept them in good stead and they’re only going to get stronger as Klay Thompson heads to the G-League to get in some reps.
Likewise, despite an easier strength of schedule, each club has debate points for bragging rights as best team per NBA.com John Schuhmann:
Sunday versus the Clippers, Stephen Curry took one moment – overreacting to a no-call and subsequent assessed technical to motivate himself and inspire his team to the victory and it punctuated why he’s the clear early MVP leader.
Curry served up 33 points including seven 3-pointers, along with five rebounds, six assists, and six steals. Otto Porter Jr (18), Jordan Poole (17), and Andrew Wiggins (12) were the other double-figure contributors.
Phoenix Suns
While the Warriors and Nets took the majority of the attention to start the season the Suns went about their business winning games and building the streak.
When Phoenix began the season losing three of their initial four games pundits were quick to state replicating their 2021 success wouldn’t be simple as opponents would be ready for them. They responded by not losing since.
The Suns have defeated eight current playoff seeds and also teams like the Nuggets and Grizzlies who were on the ladder at the time Phoenix beat them.
Arguably, the most impressive victory came against the East’s top Nets on the second game of a back-to-back on the road. It was Phoenix who looked like the team with two full days off as they led from the tip.
Chris Paul became the first player in history to register 20,000 points, 10,000 assists, and 5,000 rebounds. If he gets another 129 steals he’ll also reach 2,500 steals.
Speaking of steals, Mikal Bridges snared a career-high seven steals in this match to go along with 13 points. Devin Booker led the Suns with 30 points.
Abdel Nader (knee) is questionable for Tuesday. Frank Kaminsky (knee) and Dario Saric (knee) are both out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The teams are 5-5 in the last 10 head to head
- The teams are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 meetings
- Over Under is 2-8 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
Free Golden State Warriors vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
Both teams are likely to be favored at home and the big question is whether one team can win both matches or if a split is inevitable.
While the Suns’ performance in NY this weekend gave me slight hesitation I still think the Warriors’ depth will wear down Phoenix in the second half (especially that lethal third quarter) but more than anything I like both teams to bring the defense and therefore like the under.
