Tuesday, December 13th finds the Golden State Warriors playing the Milwaukee Bucks for the first of two matches. The Warriors will host the second contest on March 11th.
Golden State arrives having last played Saturday after reminding the Celtics who they are via a 123-107 victory while the Bucks were shocked by the Rockets losing 92-97 on Sunday.
Last season, the teams played twice with each winning one game on their home court. The Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the Warriors in 85 of their 142 matches
Golden State Warriors
Entering the game Saturday it felt like the Celtics would arrive and make a statement to the team who defeated them in the Finals. Instead, (and despite missing Andrew Wiggins) the Dubs pulled out arguably their best defensive effort of the season.
Klay Thompson looked like his pre-injury self scoring 24 of his 34 points in the first half. It was a vintage Splash Brothers performance as Steph Curry and Klay drilled 10 (of 22) 3-pointers and combined for 66 points.
Jordan Poole started in place of Andrew Wiggins but struggled from deep (1 of 9) although he collected 20 points aided by his 10 trips to the charity stripe.
On the season Curry is averaging 30.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, 7.0 assists, and 1.0 steal per game.
Curry is currently on pace for the elusive 50-40-90 season shooting 50.2 percent from the field on 20.3 attempts, 43.6 percent from the perimeter on 11.8 attempts, and 90.8 percent from the stripe on 5.0 attempts.
The Dubs average 117.6 points per game (4th) while shooting 48.1% from the field (7th) and 37.6% from deep (6th).
Defensively, they rank 23rd for opponent scoring (116.1) while shooting 46.2% from the field and 34.6% from deep ranking 10th and ninth respectively.
Draymond Green (ankle) is probable. Andrew Wiggins (groin) remains out. Andre Iguodala (hip) is out indefinitely.
Milwaukee Bucks
The Bucks navigated the absence of Khris Middleton and sit one game back for the top-seeded Celtics. They missed a golden opportunity by losing in Houston given the Celtics’ consecutive losses to the Dubs and Clippers.
While all the banter has been about Luka Donic and Jayson Tatum as MVP it’s notable that Giannis Antetokounmpo had to keep his Bucks in the mix without his main partner for the front quarter of the season.
Antetokounmpo is averaging 31.9 points, 11.0 rebounds (2.1 offensive boards), 5.4 assists, and 1.0 blocks per game.
He’s shooting 54.6 percent from the field on 21.4 attempts, 27.3 percent from the perimeter on 3.1 attempts, and 63.4 percent from the stripe on 7.7 attempts.
Opponents score the second-fewest points versus the Bucks with 107.8 and are limited to the lowest (44.5%) field goal percentage and rank eighth for opponent perimeter percentage of 34.8%.
Offensively, the Bucks score 112.0 points per game (17th), while shooting 45.6% from the field (23rd) and 35.0% from the perimeter (17th).
Khris Middleton (ankle) is probable while Jrue Holiday (illness) is questionable for Tuesday. Joe Ingles (knee) is out indefinitely.

Clearly, the Warriors can still summon the type of effort they displayed to win the title as they displayed on Saturday in defeating the Celtics but now they need to emulate that type of performance on the road.
While this could be a preview of the 2023 NBA Finals both clubs have yet to hit their full stride. Granted, injuries could muddy the water as Holiday and Middleton might be out while Wiggins will definitely miss the game and Green is questionable.
Given the Dubs’ struggles away from Chase Center, the Bucks have the edge but I like Golden State to keep it closer than the spread so I’ll take the points.
