Thursday, January 13th. the Golden State Warriors play the Milwaukee Bucks for the first time this season. The teams will play once more on March 12th in San Francisco.
The Warriors last played Tuesday in a 108-116 losing effort versus the Grizzles while the Bucks last played on Monday losing for the second time in a row to the Hornets (99-103).
Last season, the teams played twice with the teams each winning on their home court. The Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the Warriors in 84 of their 140 matches
Golden State Warriors
With Klay Thompson back in lineup, the Warriors are intent on getting everyone healthy. Although James Wisemen is the only name remaining on the “long term” injured list both Stephen Curry and Draymond Green have been dealing with nagging injuries.
After facing the Bucks and Bulls, the Warriors will play four sub .500 teams so look for them to try to power through this stretch and then potentially give their stars a night or two off versus the Wolves, Pistons, Pacers, or Rockets.
The loss to the Grizzlies was a competitive contest and while both teams were missing core players (Draymond Green/Dillon Brooks) you have to think Green’s presence changes the outcome.
Curry delivered a triple-double of 27 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists while Klay Thompson scored 14 in his second game back. Andrew Wiggins and Gary Payton II each scored 13 and Jordan Poole scored 12.
Jonathan Kuminga (knee) was upgraded to probable, Draymond Green (calf) is out indefinitely. James Wiseman (knee) remains out.
Milwaukee Bucks
While everyone focuses on Giannis Antetokounmpo and for good reason in the two games the Bucks played versus the Hornets the absence of Jrue Holiday was palpable. It reinforces how adding the two-way guard to their squad was critical to pushing Milwaukee over the top.
Milwaukee had made up ground on the Bulls, Nets and was ahead of the Heat but by virtue of losing four of their five games have dropped to fourth a game back of Miami and 1.5 games up on the 76ers.
Of the losses recently, the Pistons game was the only time they had each of the big three participating although at least two of them played in the other games.
This feels more like the timing of the season and the wear and tear on the Bucks who put in work to pull up the standings while dealing with injuries and health and safety protocols.
Antetokounmpo (26 points, 13 rebounds, eight assists) and Khris Middleton (27 points, 11 assists, seven rebounds, three steals) each registered double-doubles. Jordan Nwora (18) and Wesley Matthews (13) were the other double-figure contributors.
In the second consecutive loss to the Hornets, the reserve unit of the Bucks struggled to score with only 10 cumulative points versus 16 from Charlotte’s reserves.
The trio of George Hill, Grayson Allen, and Jrue Holiday are all in various stages of quarantine with Allen probable and the other two doubtful for Thursday. Brook Lopez (back) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Warriors are 6-4 in their last 10 meetings against each other
- The teams are 5-5 ATS in the last 10 matches against the Bucks
- The over/under is 6-4 in the teams last 10 head to head matches
Free Golden State Warriors vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction
Both teams are fighting through the dog days of winter with the Bucks losing four of their last five and the Dubs three of their last four.
Without Green, the Warriors aren’t as adept defensively and that forces them to rely more on their offense. The Bucks’ tendency is to allow teams to shoot from deep in favor of protecting the paint.
Bit of a coin toss but I’m banking on both squads being focused defensively.
