Tuesday, January 11th finds the Golden State Warriors facing the Memphis Grizzlies in their third meeting this season. To date, they’ve split the season series with the Grizzlies winning on October 28th (104-101) and the Warriors winning December 23rd (113-104) and they’ll play once more with the Warriors hosting March 28th.
Both teams played Sunday and provided the best highlights of the weekend. In the game of the day, Klay Thompson returned to the hardcourt after 941 days away recouping from two major leg injuries and helped Golden State defeat the Cavaliers 96-82.
Memphis completed the Crypto.com back-to-back sweep to extend their win streak to nine in a row with a 127-119 defeat of the Lakers complete with some of the best highlights of the year by the amazing Ja Morant.
Last season, the teams played three times with Golden State taking two of the three contests. The Pistons hold the all-time record having bested the Grizzlies in 51 of their 97 matches
Golden State Warriors
The weekend closed with what quickly became known as “Klay Day”, The second Splash Brother finally returned to the court after more than two missed seasons and social media was abuzz over the event.
He might be the most popular player within the league based on his funny, laid-back personality, what he’s been through dealing with two horrific injuries, and respect for his two-way abilities. There was much to celebrate in his return including “the dunk”, that snarl, his 17 points, and his obvious joy at being back on the hardwood
It was a low-scoring match with two of the better defenses in action but Steph Curry seemed back in form scoring 28 (10 of 21). Jordan Poole scored 14 off the bench, Andre Wiggins added 10, and Kevon Looney grabbed 18 rebounds.
Despite the length of the Cavs, the Warriors outrebounded Cleveland 54 to 42 including 22 to 8 on the offensive glass.
The updated injury report lists Draymond Green (hip) as out on Tuesday while Gary Payton II (ankle) and Otto Porter Jr. (shoulder) are questionable. James Wiseman (knee) remains out.
Remember when some self-titled experts suggested the Grizzlies were better without Ja Morant? I have a feeling most have deleted their thoughts from social media with how incredible the young star has been in recent games.
As I’m on the more mature side the closest thing I can recall to Morant is when Vince Carter first came into the league. No player has made me rise out of my seated position more since and he’s doing it in a manner of ways.
The block and dunk on Sunday are the most recent but the former is in a category all its own. That he did these things in a game where he just returned from sitting out due to a sore thigh is simply astounding. He had a relatively quiet night with 16 points, seven dimes, and five rebounds.
Rather, it was his cohorts who made big contributions with Desmond Bane scoring 23 and Jaren Jackson Jr. posting a double-double of 21 points and 12 rebounds plus six blocks. Kyle Anderson (16) and John Konchar (14) made an immediate impact in their return to the lineup.
Steven Adams and Yves Pons (protocols) are questionable for Tuesday while Dillon Brooks (ankle) is out indefinitely.

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
It’s unfortunate Dillon Brooks won’t be available for this match, primarily because he’s the best defender on Curry. Moreso, for the Iguodala drama. When Iggy landed with the Grizz he stayed home awaiting a trade to a “contender” which eventually became the Heat.
His sentiments never sat well with Brooks who took it personally and it very well may have been the fuel that gave this current crop of Grizzlies youngsters their swagger and invincibility.
I did say not to turn on the Grizz while they were on this roll, but this is the rare exception because the Warriors are riding the Klay high and won’t take Memphis for granted
