Monday, December 13th Golden State Warriors meet the Indiana Pacers meet for the first time this season.
The Pacers last played Friday in a 106-93 victory versus the Mavericks extending Indiana’s win streak to three games in a row. The Warriors played Philadelphia on Saturday in a 93-102 loss.
The Pacers hold the all-time record between the clubs with 49 wins in 94 meetings. Last season, the teams played twice with each team winning on the other club’s floor.
Golden State Warriors
Indy is the second of a five-game road trip with stops next in New York, Boston and Toronto. While the 3-point record watch is on, Steve Kerr threw some flies in the ointment when he suggested he might rest Curry against Indy because its a back-to-back.
Curry was hoping to break the record at the Chase Center but four of the five stops on this trip have a sentimental stake. His brother Seth plays for Philly and Steph spent time in Toronto as a youngster when his Dad Dell played for the Raptors.
The two men who sandwich Curry on the All-Time list, Reggie Miller and Ray Allen have ties to Indiana and Boston respectively although Allen’s relationship with Celtics fans is a bit tenuous given he chose to leave for the Heat in the LeBron Heatle era.
New York is the one stop without any direct ties or sentimental attachment but perhaps breaking the record in the hallowed basketball grounds of MSG has it’s own allure.
Guarding Curry is a refined skill and nullifies your own offense as the top trio of his defenders stats demonstrate (Curry’s 3PFG% in those matches in brackets).
Thybulle (21.4%) had six points, two rebounds and two blocks. Malik Bridges (19%) had two points, two rebounds, three assists, four steals, and a block.
Inarguably, Fred VanVleet still holds the title because he not only held him to the lowest 3-point efficiency (16.7%) he also produced offensively albeit less efficiently than typical — 17 points, four rebounds, seven assists, a steal, and a block.
Only three Dubs scored in double-figures in the loss to Philly — Jordan Poole (23), Andrew Wiggins (20), and Steph (18).
The updated injury report does NOT have Curry listed but Andre Iguodala is out for rest.
Indiana Pacers
Maybe the Pacers front office should’ve leaked they were going to break up the team and try to trade core members to rebuild sooner.
Since that report came out Indy has won three in a row. Friday, the Pacers front court of Domantas Sabonis (24 points, 10 rebounds plus seven assists) and Myles Turner (17 points, 10 rebounds) offered double-double fodder to critics who suggest they can’t play together.
Caris LeVert the other name supposedly being shopped led the team in scoring with 26 points plus six rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block. Malcolm Brogdon was his ever steady self with 12 points and eight assists.
The only starter who had an off night was rookie Chris Duarte — 2 of 10 for eight points
Justin Holiday (COVID) will be a game time decision, Brad Wanamaker is questionable while . T.J. McConnell (wrist) and TJ Warren (foot) are all out indefinitely.

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Prediction
In the last two games it sort of feels like the history of this moment is weighing down the Warriors who are typically more joyful and free flowing on the court.
As exciting as it is to be among those who’ll reflect back to say “I remember the exact moment Curry hit the historic 3-pointer” it also feels like the sooner Steph sets record the better it will be for the Dubs so they can focus on making a run for the championship.
If Curry is out I’m not sure it changes the outcome other than the point differential.
