Friday, January 14th, finds the Golden State Warriors and the Chicago Bulls playing for the final time this season. Golden State won the initial match on November 12th (119-93).
The Warriors are playing a back-to-back set with the front end completed Thursday in a 99-118 loss to the Bucks while the Bulls last played on Wednesday in a 112-138 losing effort versus the Nets.
Golden State Warriors
The wear and tear of the season and not having all their core healthy has seemingly caught up to the Warriors who’ve lost four of their last five matches and five of the last eight.
Although the Warriors are thrilled to have Klay Thompson back the absence of Draymond Green is highlighting just how much his presence is required on both sides of the hardwood.
After this match, the Dubs will have a bit of a break in the schedule with the Wolves, Pistons, Pacers, and Rockets on tap which should allow Steve Kerr to rest Stephen Curry (who is looking fatigued) and allow Green time to heal prior to the Jazz contest on the 23rd.
Only four Warriors scored in double-figures in the loss to Milwaukee and none broke 20 points with Andrew Wiggins the high point man scoring 16. Jonathan Kuminga (15), Curry (12), and Thompson (11) were the others to register double-digits.
Adding to the defensive woes, Gary Payton II missed the game Thursday with back spasms and is questionable for Friday. Green (calf) is out indefinitely and James Wiseman (knee) continues to rehab.
Chicago Bulls
In their last two matches, the Bulls offered dramatically different outcomes. Against the Pistons they dominated but facing the three-headed offensive monster of the Nets Big 3 it was Brooklyn who dominated.
Against the Pistons, Chicago won virtually every main category area shooting 52.9 percent from the perimeter (18 of 34), was dominant on the glass (61 to 41), as well as fast break (28 to 15) and paint scoring (52 to 46). Eight Bulls scored in double-figures against the Pistons with Nikola Vucevic leading scoring (22 points).
In contrast, against the Nets, Zach LaVine topped scoring (22) while DeMar DeRozan (19), Coby White (16), Vucevic (14) were the other double-figure scorers. They lost the rebounding battle (35 to 41), scoring in the paint (42 to 48), fast-break scoring (9 to 19), and allowed the Nets to shoot 53.1 percent from deep.
Derrick Jones Jr. (knee) is questionable while Alex Caruso (foot), Tyler Cook (ankle), and Javonte Green (groin) are out indefinitely. Patrick Williams (thumb) is lost for the season.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Warriors are 9-1 in their last 10 meetings against each other
- The Warriors are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 matches against the Wizards
- The over/under is 4-6 in the teams last 10 head to head matches
- The Bulls are 8-0 SU in their last 8 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 6 of Chicago’s last 9 games.
Free Golden State Warriors vs. Chicago Bulls NBA Prediction
If Payton can’t go it puts extra pressure on the Warriors especially with Green already out. While Thompson continues to find his rhythm it’s also noticeable Jordan Poole has struggled in two of the three games since Klay returned.
He’s scored 14 (6 of 12), 12 (3 of 11), and nine (2 of 7) in the three games so a cumulative 11 of 30 or 36.6 percent including the first game when he shot 50%. It’s naturally going to take some time for the Dubs to adapt to having Klay back and how the minutes and rotations shift and none more so than Poole.
Like Milwaukee, the Bulls will be laser-focused on getting back in the win column and you can bet Golden State is equally desirous of getting a “W” especially with the upcoming easier opponents awaiting. On the positive side, Steve Kerr raised the white flag early with no starter playing over 29 minutes (Curry) on Thursday.
