Wednesday, December 21st, the Golden State Warriors and Brooklyn Nets meet for the first of two scheduled matches. Golden State will host on January 22nd.
Golden State is completing a back-to-back set having been blown out 94-132 by the Knicks on Tuesday while the Nets have the major rest advantage having last played Sunday in a come-from-behind 124-121 victory versus the Pistons.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Warriors taking both contests. The Warriors have won 56 of the 95 matches played versus the Nets all-time.
Golden State Warriors
The beatdown at the Garden highlighted what life could be like for the Warriors over the next several weeks while Steph Curry is out with a shoulder injury.
Not that they’ll lose every match by 36 points but things could get ugly.
In terms of offense, the Warriors were led by Jordan Poole who scored 26 while his teammates Jonathan Kuminga (13) Draymond Green (11), Klay Thompson (11), and Ty Jerome (11) all scored in double-figures.
There is a light at the end of the tunnel though as Curry will miss weeks — not months. This match is also the last of the Warriors’ six-game road trip and better still, their next eight will be played at home at the Chase Center.
In that eight-game stint, they’ll face some elite teams (Grizzlies, Suns) but will also face tanking teams (Magic, Pistons, Hornets) as well as middling or struggling squads (Blazers, Jazz, Hawks).
Theorthetically, the Dubs could register a winning record during this period, and if they can stay around .500 until Steph returns they’ll be fine.
The Dubs average 116.6 points per game (5th) while shooting 47.7% from the field (9th) and 38.0% from deep (5th). Defensively, they rank 26th for opponent scoring (117.1) while shooting 46.6% from the field and 35.1% from deep ranking 13th and 12th respectively.
Curry (shoulder), Andrew Wiggins (groin), and Andre Iguodala (hip) are out.
Brooklyn Nets
The Nets are rolling on a six-game win streak and have a single loss in their last 11 games. Albeit, it’s worth noting in those 10 wins only two of the opponents have winning records one who is a game above .500 (Hawks) plus the Blazers who might be closer to middling than elite.
In fact, their next two matches might tell us more about this Nets club (Bucks, Cavaliers) than the last 12 has.
Brooklyn allows 111.4 points per game ranking 10th and possesses the sixth-best opponent field goal percentage of 45.5%. Their perimeter defense is another story as foes shoot 37.6% from deep ranking 28th overall.
Brooklyn scores 113.1 points per game (17th). They own the best field goal percentage, shooting 50.4%, and rank seventh on the perimeter (37.4%).
Patty Mills (illness) is doubtful and Seth Curry (hamstring) is questionable.

Free Golden State Warriors vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA Prediction:
If I was just looking at the stats and records without knowing who each team was I’d probably be far more inclined to pick the Nets. Especially considering this is a back-to-back scenario for the Dubs while Brooklyn had three full days off.
However — Klay Thompson and Draymond Green are arguably the most competitive individuals in the NBA. No one likes to lose but this duo HATES losing, especially when it involves a rival or in this case someone they care about.
That might sound odd but beating Kevin Durant is as important to them as taking down their worst enemy. That motivation might be enough to help them keep the game close.
