Friday, December 17th, finds the Golden State Warriors facing the Boston Celtics for the first time this season. The Warriors will host Boston at the Chase Center on March 16th.
The Warriors last played Tuesday in a winning 105-96 effort versus the Knicks while the Celtics last played on Monday beating the Bucks 117-103.
The Celtics hold the all-time record between the clubs with 207 wins in 344 meetings versus the Warriors. Last season, the teams played twice with Boston winning both contests.
Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry made history at Madison Square Gardens drilling his 2,974th 3-pointer to become the best shooter in NBA history. Not that it was ever a question but no doubt the Dubs are happy to get the record out of the way.
The team had been pressing of late and it was clear his teammates were feeding him extra shots wanting him to get the record but in doing so it took the Warriors out of their natural offense.
Curry finished with 22 points connecting on five of his 14 perimeter attempts adding three rebounds, three assists, a steal, and a block.
Jordan Poole scored 19 points adding nine rebounds while Andrew Wiggins got the historic assist on Curry’s 3-pointer and pitched in 18 points with six rebounds, and three assists. Nemanja Bjelica was the top reserve scoring 14 points as the only other double-figure scorer.
The schedule for the Warriors features two back-to-back sets this week with them playing Indiana/New York on Monday/Tuesday and Boston/Toronto on Friday/Saturday.
Andre Iguodala (rest) is expected to play but given the back-to-back set, the presumption is he’ll be rested either Saturday. James Wiseman (knee) and Klay Thompson (Achilles, knee) continue to ramp up their return to the court with no definitive return date.
Boston Celtics
Following a 1-4 Western road trip, the Celtics returned to Boston and got a tough win against a conference rival. Jaylen Brown was back after missing five games due to a hamstring injury offering 19 points, four rebounds, five assists, two steals, and a block.
Jayson Tatum was spectacular leading the Celtics with 42 points (16 of 25), five rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Al Horford and Robert Williams III each scored 10 points while Grant Williams was the top reserve with 17 points.
Boston has struggled to find consistency and new head coach Ime Udoka is trying to put his stamp on his charges with a defensive focus. To punctuate his desires Udoka pulled film from the recent road trip and was much happier with the defensive effort versus the Bucks.
Josh Richardson (COVID) and Romeo Langford (non-COVID illness) are probable to play Friday while Javari Parker (quarantine) is out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Over/Under is 1-9 in the team’s last 10 head-to-head meetings.
- The Warriors are 13-6 ATS in their last 19 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 9 of Golden State’s last 11 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Boston’s last 9 games.
Free Golden State Warriors vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
Although the Celtics delivered defensively versus the Bucks their trend this season is to lose after defeating a plus .500 team. To wit, on the six occasions, they’ve beat a plus .500 team they lost the next match in all but one situation (Thunder).
Granted they’ve had three full days off to prepare but similarly, the Warriors got days of rest and are the more consistent, deeper squad.
