On Friday, May 7th, the Denver Nuggets and Utah Jazz will compete for the third and final this season. Each team took a prior contest with Utah winning on January 17th (109-105) and Denver winning on January 31st (128-117)
Entering the match the Jazz has pulled back to the top of the West ladder a game ahead of the Suns and four in front of the Nuggets. Denver dropped to fourth following the Clippers’ defeat of the Lakers.
The Jazz holds the all-time record between the clubs with 116 wins in 200 meetings. Last season, the teams played three times with Denver sweeping all three contests.

Scan the candidates for Most Valuable Player this year and it’s you’ll land on Nikola Jokic is as the definitive frontrunner.
LeBron James was the early sentimental choice but missed too many games to be in serious contention. The NBA’s 3-point sniper Stephen Curry is on fire but his team is too far down in the standings.

Fellow big man Joel Embiid will be in the mix but his squad learned how to win without him but struggled with Embiid but without Ben Simmons which will hurt his case.
Chris Paul has an argument very similar to Jokic embodying the essence of what “most valuable” means. Jokic’s stats are better but what separates him from CP3 is what he’s done since the Nuggets lost Jamal Murray to a torn ACL (10-2).
While Jokic is drawing far more attention now his production remains consistent (assists are slightly down) as he assesses in each game what’s needed from him and who has the hot hand.
When Murray went down everyone assumed the Nuggets season was doomed. But with both LA teams struggling down the stretch while the Suns and Jazz are inexperienced and young suddenly Denver looks like a good bet to make a deep run.
Zeke Nnaji (ankle) is questionable, Will Barton (hamstring strain), PJ Dozier (adductor strain), and Monte Morris (hamstring strain) are out.
Utah Jazz
An interesting cat and mouse game is going on at the top of the Western Conference playoff ladder. Although the Clippers and Nuggets are not statistically ruled out it’s unlikely they’ll challenge the Jazz or Suns for the top two berths.
The question is whether the Jazz and Suns are glancing downward worrying about matchups. More importantly, is that even a realistic option?
With the Lakers reeling and potentially dropping to seventh (if they lose to Blazers Friday) that could dramatically change the dynamics of seeding.
Currently, the Warriors hold the eighth seed, and if LeBron isn’t fully ready that one-game playoff could push the Warriors into seventh. Presumably, the Lakers would find a way to win their way to the eighth seed.
There is no way the Jazz or Suns thought the reward for winning the West would be playing the Lakers in the first round — so all this overthinking about positioning is warranted.
Their final six games feature three top-8 seeds (Nuggets, Warriors, Blazers). Alternatively, Phoenix plays four seeds (Knicks, Lakers, Warriors, Blazers) and finish with two against the Spurs who’ll likely need the wins for the play-in seed.
Udoka Azubuike (ankle) is probable, Mike Conley (hamstring), Donovan Mitchell (ankle), and Juwan Morgan (heel) are all out.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Denver Nuggets vs. Utah Jazz NBA Prediction:
While the Jazz figures out their closing strategy the Nuggets do want the win because getting that extra game in the thin Colorado air is an advantage few teams can counter.
