Sunday, November 21st, finds the Denver Nuggets playing the Phoenix Suns for the second time this season. In the initial meeting on October 20th, the Nuggets won 110-98.
The Nuggets played Friday without their cornerstone Nikola Jokic due to a sprained wrist and lost a close battle (108-114) to the Bulls extending their losing streak to three games in a row.
In contrast, Phoenix is rolling having won their 11th game in a row dispensing of the Mavericks 112-104 without Luka Doncic in the lineup.
Last season, the squads played three times with the Nuggets winning two of the three contests but Phoenix got the better of Denver in the playoffs sweeping them in the second round. The Suns hold the all-time record having bested the Nuggets in 98 of their 183 matches.
Denver Nuggets
Head coach Michael Malone got tossed from the game on Thursday but it seemed to be more like a ploy to energize his team who were missing core starters and lacking energy.
On Friday, the reigning MVP missed his first game of the year for injury and second overall having served a one-game suspension for the altercation with the Heat enforcer Markieff Morris.
Fortunately, Will Barton returned as the Nuggets have been staying in the mix of things without Jamal Murray (ACL rehab) or Michael Porter Jr. (back) who never looked right from season start.
They’ve stayed in games looking like a defensive force but the injuries caught up to them especially without Jokic and that’s led to three consecutive losses (Mavericks, 76ers, Bulls).
In the loss to the Bulls, Aaron Gordon (28 points, nine rebounds, four assists) and Barton (23 points, four rebounds, three assists) did their best to keep the Nuggets in the match but Chicago had too much depth.
Facundo Campazzo was the only other double-figure scorer with 16 points while PJ Dozier provided nine points and 10 rebounds.
Without Jokic the Nuggets struggled on the boards and in the paint losing both battles 50 to 38 plus and got annihilated on the offensive glass 17 to 7.
Jokic is listed as questionable while Zeke Nnaji (ankle) was downgraded to out. Murray and Porter Jr. are out indefinitely.
Phoenix Suns
While everyone is fixated on the Golden State Warriors and what’s going on with the Lakers the Phoenix Suns have quietly won 11 games in a row and look even stronger than they did last season and that’s with Devin Booker still rounding into form.
Six Suns scored in double-figures with Chris Paul registering a double-double of 18 points and 14 assists plus five rebounds and three steals.
Mikal Bridges and Devin Booker each scored 19 while DeAndre Ayton scored just eight points but grabbed 17 rebounds. JaVale McGee (14), Cameron Johnson (13), and Cameron Payne (10) were the other double-digit scorers.
Frank Kaminsky (knee) is downgraded to out while Abdel Nader (undisclosed) is also out Sunday. Dario Saric (knee) is out indefinitely.

Free Denver Nuggets vs. Phoenix Suns NBA Prediction:
I’m rolling with the hot club but if Jokic plays I like the Nuggets to be close if not end the streak so keep an eye on injury updates just prior to game time.
