Wednesday, November 23rd, finds the Denver Nuggets and OKC Thunder playing the third of four scheduled meetings this season.
The Nuggets took the initial two meetings winning on October 22nd (122-117) and November 3rd (122-110). Denver hosts the final meeting between the clubs on January 22nd.
Denver is completing a back-to-back set losing a 108-110 nailbiter versus the Pistons on Tuesday while the Thunder played Monday losing 119-129 to the Knicks.
Last season the clubs played four times with the teams splitting the season series with two wins apiece. The Thunder hold the all-time record having bested the Nuggets in 101 of their 193 matches
With the Nuggets playing shorthanded for several days, Michael Malone got an injection of talent with Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon all returning to the court.
Jokic was a rebound away from a triple-double registering 31 points, nine rebounds, and 10 assists. Murray seemed to be affected more by the time off, shooting 3 of 12 for 10 points (plus eight assists).
In the five prior games, Denver was missing at least one of Jokic, Murray, Gordon, or Bones Hyland with the team collecting only two wins in those contests.
Offensively, the Nuggets suffered some slippage while Jokic and Murray were out with their points per game sliding to 113.5 points per game scoring which ranks 13th overall.
Despite the poor shooting night versus the Pistons, the Nuggets are the most proficient team in the association shooting the second-best mark of 49.4 percent from the field and are the best from the perimeter (40.3%)
Defensively, the Nuggets allow opponents to score 113.6 points per game which ranks 16th. Denver opponents shoot 49.1% from the field (28th) and 34.8% from the perimeter (10th).
Ish Smith (calf) and Peyton Watson (quarantine) are questionable for Wednesday. Malone said Jeff Green (knee) is out for the foreseeable future. Collin Gillespie (leg) is out indefinitely
After his lowest-scoring game of the season (15) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander got right back on track registering 30 points, five rebounds, seven assists, a steal, and a block. Unfortunately, it wasn’t enough to garner the victory as OKC dropped their second in a row.
The Thunder score 116.4 points per game ranking sixth. OKC is tied with the Magic in 12th shooting 47.0% from the field and ranks 21st from the perimeter shooting 34.2%.
Defensively, the Thunder rank 27th for opponent points allowed per game with 117.5 scored. Their foes shoot 46.7% from the field which is tied for 18th with the 76ers and are in a five-way tie in 15th for opponent perimeter percentage (35.8%).
Aleksej Pokusevski (ankle) is questionable for Wednesday. Chet Holmgren (foot) is out for the season.

Free Denver Nuggets vs. OKC Thunder NBA Prediction:
The Nuggets have won the two prior meetings and both teams arrive at this match having lost three of the last four games.
With Jokic, Murray, and Gordon back the Nuggets regain their depth and while Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has been impressive he simply doesn’t have a reliable second to help him get past the Nuggets.
NOTE: This is assuming Jokic and Murray aren’t rested given their recent bout with COVID- if Malone does sit them I’d lean back to the Thunder.
