Wednesday, November 9th the Denver Nuggets and Indiana Pacers play the first of two scheduled contests. Denver will play host on January 20th.
Both clubs last played Monday with the Nuggets winning 115-109 versus the Spurs while the Pacers feasted 129-122 in their win versus the Pelicans
Last season, the teams played twice with Denver taking both contests. The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Pacers in 50 of their 96 matches
Denver Nuggets
If you watch the national sports shows no doubt you’ve witnessed segments on the Celtics, Pelicans, Hawks, Warriors, Jazz, Pacers, etc and their offensive prowess.
What you probably haven’t seen is how scary this Nuggets team is on that side of the court. The fact they rank eighth in scoring (116.2 points per game) shouldn’t deter the obvious.
They top the league for both field goal (50.2%) and perimeter shooting (41.9%) efficiency! No other team is shooting above 50 and 40 percent respectively.
They possess a trio who not only puts points on the board but they do it with accuracy and IF they can stay healthy are only going to get better as two of them ease back from a long injury absence!
On Monday, it was the Big 3 who led the way all shooting over 50 percent and Jamal Murray was channeling his inner Joker dropping some sick dimes to Jokic.
If they brought even a modicum of defense they would be the title favorites and it wouldn’t be close ( come on Michael Malone you can get them to do it).
The silly part of this equation is last season missing Murray and Michael Porter Jr. the Nuggets stayed in the mix by riding Jokic’s back almost entirely on offense to create shots and lead scoring and BY LOCKING DOWN their opponents but have abandoned those habits so far in 2022.
In that regard, the Nuggets are allowing 113.9 points per game ranking 19th while opponents are shooting 48.3 percent from the field (27th) and 35.5 percent from the perimeter ranking 15th.
Ish Smith (calf) and Zeke Nnaji were downgraded to doubtful for Wednesday. Collin Gillespie (leg surgery) is out indefinitely.
Indiana Pacers
If the Nuggets are the existing offensive powerhouse, a rising star is certainly the Indiana Pacers.
Despite an off shooting 2 of 8 night by the Pacers rookie Bennedict Mathurin (who has ranked first or second in scoring most nights), the Pacers showcased that offensive skill set in dismantling the Pelicans.
Myles Turner in particular was on fire delivering 37 points and 12 rebounds. In fact, three Pacers posted double-doubles including Tyrese Haliburton (20 points, 13 assists) and Jalen Smith (15 points, 11 rebounds).
Buddy Hield scored 20 points, and three others reached double-digits with the team dropping 22 deep balls.
Diving into the numbers, Indy ranks fourth in scoring with 117.1 per game, ninth for 3-point efficiency (37.9%), and lower on the ladder in 23rd for field goal percentage (45.4%).
As great as they are at putting the ball in the basket they need ample work at stopping their opponents from doing the same.
The 118 points opponents score on average ranks 28th and they allow the worst opponent 3-point percentage (41%) and aren’t much better at stopping their foes anywhere they shoot from ranking 25th (47.4%).
Daniel Theis (knee) was downgraded and Aaron Nesmith (foot) is questionable Wednesday. Chris Duarte (ankle) is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Nuggets are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The Pacers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 4 of Denver’s last 6 games.
- The total has gone OVER in 12 of Indiana’s last 17 games.
Free Denver Nuggets vs. Indiana Pacers NBA Prediction
Fire up the NBA League Pass and earmark this as one of those must-watch games. Denver is on a three-game win streak, winning five of their last six while the Pacers have won two in a row and four of their last five (against stiffer competition).
The Nuggets learned an early lesson on opening night not to sleep on the presumed ‘tankers’ and their recent win streak showcases they are great students.
Myles Turner won’t win the battle to stop the Joker but will try to add to his Lakers video resume. Another key side note is Indy has four Canadians on the roster all of whom grew up and played in the same National program with Murray.
Duarte is out and Oshae Brissett is seemingly out of favor with Rick Carlisle but rookies Mathurin and Andrew Nembhard will be amped up to impress and gain bragging rights.
So we’ve got the most efficient perimeter shooting team versus the team who defends it the worst which is a recipe for historic Nuggets records on tap — BUT– call me crazy, with all the intangibles and side stories I’m taking the Pacers, and the points.
