With the NBA 2025-26 season into its third day, the team I believe will reign supreme this season gets its first start of the year. Meanwhile, the Warriors look to stay unbeaten after an easy victory versus the Lakers on opening night.

Last season, the Nuggets took two of the three matches the teams played and were 3-2 in the preseason, a feat the Warriors matched in their preseason efforts (3-2).
Both clubs are still integrating new faces as they seek to find and build chemistry among their rotations.

Denver offered the greatest test for the defending champion Thunder in the postseason, but ultimately needed more off the bench, a problem that has plagued the club since it won the title three seasons ago.
Although neither Bruce Brown nor Tim Hardaway Jr. offered much in the preseason, I’m more bullish on this group to gel by mid-season en route to claiming Larry O’B again.
Denver ranked 15th offensively (110.3), 13th defensively (108.9), and 11th in net rating (+1.4), running a pace of 98.9, which ranked a ghoulish 28th last season.

Warriors Stats
Golden State ranked a surprising 21st on offense last season (107.9), but was a respectable 9th defensively, although they moved up once Jimmy Butler arrived.
Additionally, the Dubs held the 13th-ranked net rating (+0.7) and ran the fourth quickest pace (106.6).
Butler gives Steve Kerr a reason to be optimistic, especially considering the team was 22-5 when both he and Steph played, and they’ve added a big man (Al Horford) who can defend and stretch the floor.
Something to watch for is how well Jonathan Kuminga plays (he was fantastic in the opener) as he navigates being on a team he’d rather be competing against than playing for.
Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors bottom line: Although I picked the Thunder to win it all last year, you might recall I picked the Nuggets in each of the two prior seasons, and I’m back on that wagon this year.
I also like the Warriors, although I worry their small-ball lineup will be tested, particularly by the teams with two big man lineups.

Here is my Nuggets Warriors free pick. With so many quality teams out West, the Nuggets and Warriors could very well be the greatest competition to the Thunder repeating. As they face each other for the first time this year, size should be the determining factor in the victory.
Size matters, or at least that’s what the Nuggets should be championing as they face the Dubs smallish lineup which could mean we’ll see plenty of the two big-men lineups on Thursday.
The perimeter will be key in this meeting on both ends of the hardwood. Curry will always be a threat but aside from Buddy Heild the Dubs may be hard-pressed to deliver other 3-point snipers although they’ll get plenty of opportunity if David Adelman continues to utilize zone defense like he did in the preseason.
