Tuesday, December 28th, finds the Denver Nuggets playing the Golden State Warriors for the first time this season in a home and home series that will move to Denver on Thursday the 30th.
Both teams will host each other once more this season with the teams in San Francisco on February 16th and Denver hosting on March 10th
Denver last played Sunday defeating the Clippers 103-100 while the Warriors played Christmas day besting the Suns 116-107.
Last season, the teams played three times with the Warriors winning two of the three contests. The Nuggets have won 97 of the 181 matches played between the clubs all-time.
Denver Nuggets
Nikola Jokic continues to feast and provide the necessary edge to keep the Nuggets around .500 but how long can the MVP candidate keep up this pace missing his two best weapons?
In the victory versus the Clippers, Jokic delivered a monster 26 point – 22 rebound double-double along with eight assists, two steals, and two blocks.
Five Nuggets registered double-figure scoring including Will Barton (17), reserve Davon Reed (15), while Monte Morris and Austin Rivers each chipped in 12 points.
Bol Bol is the only active Nuggets player in protocols and upgraded to questionable for Tuesday. Aaron Gordon (hamstring) is also questionable.
Jamal Murray (ACL) is rehabbing, Markus Howard (knee) is out indefinitely while Michael Porter Jr. (COVID/back) and PJ Dozier (ACL) are out indefinitely.
Golden State Warriors
Prior to Saturday Stephen Curry hadn’t exactly feasted on Christmas Day averaging a little over 13 points in those eight games but led his team with 33 in the victory Saturday.
Although it was an inefficient night at the office (10 of 27 and 5 of 16 from deep) his presence was the key to creating constant opportunities for his teammates and spreading the court. Curry added four rebounds, six assists, three steals, a block, and was a game-high +24.
Considering the Warriors were missing three of their top four scorers with Andre Wiggins, Jordan Poole, and Damion Lee all in health and safety protocols the win was extremely impressive.
The ‘next man up’ mentality was on full display as Otto Porter (19 points) and Gary Payton (14 points) started with both offering defensive intensity and energy. Rookie Jonathan Kuminga (12 points) and Nemanja Bjelica (10 points) offered double-digit bench scoring.
Draymond Green impacted all areas of the game with eight points, 10 assists, eight rebounds, three steals, and three blocks but watching how he captains the defense and frequently runs the offense highlights how essential he is to this Warriors squad.
Unfortunately, boxing day brought news Green has entered protocols joining a quartet of Warriors already in protocols. Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole were upgraded to probable for Tuesday, while Moses Moody, Damion Lee and Green are out.
Andre Iguodala (knee) was upgraded to probable. Klay Thompson (Achilles) and James Wiseman (knee) remain out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Warriors are 6-4 in the last 10 head to head
- The Warriors are 7-3 ATS in their last 10 meetings.
- Over Under is 2-8 in the teams last 10 head to head matchups
Free Denver Nuggets vs. Golden State Warriors NBA Prediction:
The injury-riddled Nuggets won’t be shedding any tears over Warriors entering protocols, especially Draymond Green who poses a huge problem for Denver given his overall game but particularly his defensive acumen.
It was inevitable the omicron variant would catch up to the teams it had largely avoided, however, with the shortened quarantine period for asymptomatic players the timing is a fortunate happening for Golden State whose players are all vaccinated.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Warriors -6.5
Without Green, it offers the Nuggets a better shot to steal the game but while I’m keen on Denver keeping it close I like the Dubs to win, especially if Poole and Wiggins return.
