Sunday, November 13th, finds the Denver Nuggets and Chicago Bulls face each other in the first of two matches this season. Denver will host the second contest on March 8th.
Denver last played Friday in a losing 112-131 effort versus the Celtics while the Bulls have been resting since Wednesday when they lost a tough 111-115 contest to the Pelicans.
Last season, the teams played twice with Chicago winning both contests. The Nuggets hold the all-time record having bested the Bulls in 55 of their 97 matches.
Denver Nuggets
With teams like the Cavaliers, Jazz and Blazers drawing early praise from the critics the two clubs which have stood out the most for me are the Bucks and Nuggets.
Milwaukee is winning in spite of missing a major portion of their offense and the Nuggets are perhaps the most frustrating to me because of how darn good they are offensively and how little effort they make defensively.
They entered the match Friday shooting over 50 and 40 percent from the field and perimeter and while they remain first in both categories it boggles the mind that they didn’t seem prepared for the Celtics and allowed them to score 131 points.
The Nuggets are allowing 115.8 points per game ranking 23rd and they allow opponents to shoot 48.8 percent from the field which ranks 27th and 36 percent from deep ranking 19th.
Offensively they’re scoring 116.3 points per game ranking fifth overall. They are the cream of the crop when it comes to proficiency as they shoot 49.7 percent from the field and 41.9 percent from the perimeter both the best marks in the league.
Bones Hyland (health and safety protocols) and Ish Smith (calf) are questionable for Sunday. Collin Gillespie (leg surgery) is out indefinitely.
Chicago Bulls
After only getting up 15 shot attempts in two games versus the Raptors’ swarming double-team defense on him DeMar DeRozan was ready for a breakout performance and he delivered.
DeRozan delivered 33 points on 14 of 26 from the field and dropped one of the meanest dunks of the season down on Trey Murphy and Herbert Jones who are 11 and 9 years his junior.
Unfortunately, even with his teammates Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic adding 23 and 18 it still wasn’t enough to capture the victory.
The Bulls average 111.4 points per game ranking 18th while shooting 46.4 percent from the field and 36.5 percent from the perimeter which ranks 19th and 12th respectively.
Defensively, the Bulls allow an average of 109.8 points per game ranking 11th while allowing their foes to shoot 46.6 percent from the field (17th) and 36.6 percent from the perimeter (22nd).
Coby White (quad) is questionable for Sunday. Lonzo Ball (knee) remains out indefinitely.

Nikola Jokic has been in foul trouble early in consecutive games so expect that to get cleaned up in this outing — either that or Michael Malone could blow a gasket.
Both the Pacers and Celtics got the home whistle benefit calls but they were also getting away with baiting the refs on flops against the reigning MVP.
Malone called a coach’s challenge and won on the Marcus Smart flop but don’t be surprised if coach picks up a tech should it happen for the third consecutive game.
If the Nuggets play even a smidgen of defense this should be an easy victory for Denver. Eventually, they have to hear me right?
