Saturday, December 8 finds the Denver Nuggets meeting up vs. the Atlanta Hawks as they enter the 2018-19 regular season. Denver will play a back to back set on Friday/Saturday with their first match occurring in Charlotte prior to playing in Atlanta. The Hawks last played on Wednesday when they suffered a beat down by the Wizards.
Last season, the teams split the season series and Nuggets took the initial game this year. The Hawks hold the all-time record having bested the Nuggets in 48 of their 88 matches.
Sitting atop the Western Conference the Nuggets have pundits sitting up and taking notice. A huge win in Toronto cemented the belief this team is for real.
The biggest surprise is the Nuggets defense where they rank fifth a huge jump from last season when they ranked 23rd.
Most poignantly the Nuggets rank second in both opponent field goal percent and perimeter defense. They also still rank high on offense (7th) so this is a well rounded squad with solid perimeter scoring and tons of depth.
In their followup to the clutch time win in Toronto the Nuggets took overtime in Orlando to capture the win.
Denver is hit hard by injury with five expected out for this match. Gary Harris didn’t play in Orlando after a hip strain in Toronto and is expected out versus the Hornets and Hawks.
Will Barton and Isaiah Thomas (hips) each expected back mid December. Players who’ll be out for a longer term are Jarred Vanderbilt (foot) and, Michael Porter Jr. is (back surgery to repair a herniated disc).
It’s been a tough season for the Hawks to garner wins but their youthful assets provide some exciting basketball with rookie Trae Young living up to his preseason hype. He’s averaging 15.7 points and 7.3 assists.
John Collins missed the first 15 games of the season but with 10 games under his belt he is finding his legs. In the last game versus the Wizards he posted a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds.
Miles Plumlee (left knee pain) listed as day to day. Omari Spellman (hip injury) and will not suit up against the Nuggets on Saturday. Jeremy Lin (lower-back strain) also won’t play.
Two longer term injuries are Taurean Prince (ankle) out until mid December and Alex Poythress (left ankle contusion) who is out for an undetermined time.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Denver Nuggets vs. Atlanta Hawks NBA Prediction:
Although this could be a trap game it’s unlikely the Nuggets lose sight of their goal. All Mike Malone has to do is remind his squad the past two seasons they’ve lost out moving on to the playoffs by one measley point. So these games are unlikely to be taken for granted.
