Wednesday, December 1st finds the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans tipping off in their second meeting of the season in what will be the first of two consecutive matches versus each other. In the initial match on November 8th, the Mavericks won 108-92.
Both clubs last played on Monday with the Mavericks losing to the Cavaliers 96-114 while the Pelicans defeated the Clippers 123-104 at Staples.
Washington last played Monday, losing 103-109 to the Hornets marking their third loss in four games. New Orleans last played Monday in a 96-110 loss to the Timberwolves the Pelicans second in a row and 13th in the last 15 contests.
The Mavericks hold the all-time record between the clubs with 48 wins in 71 meetings versus the Pelicans. Last season, the teams played three times with the Mavericks taking two of the three contests.
Dallas Mavericks
Just when it looked like Kristaps Porzingis and Luka Doncic could develop into a viable one-two punch for the Mavericks, the big man tweaked his ankle and already everyone is wondering if this will be yet another long-term absence.
Dallas is reeling a bit having lost five of their last six games.
In the loss to the Cavaliers, Doncic registered a triple-double of 25 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists but experienced an odd shooting night connecting on seven of his 11 deep balls but missing all four free throws, and shot 2 of 10 from the mid-range.
Dorian Finney-Smith (14), Maxi Kleber (13) and, Boban Marjanovic (10) were the other double-figure contributors.
The Cavaliers’ size proved to be problematic for Dallas who is usually the team giving opponents trouble on the glass. Instead, Cleveland outrebounded Dallas 48 to 33 and outscored them in the paint 60 to 46.
Kristaps Porzingis (ankle) is questionable for Wednesday. Willie Cauley-Stein (personal) and Frank Ntilikina (calf) are downgraded to out.
New Orleans Pelicans
After getting out to a 1-12 start the Pelicans seemed destined to raise the white flag and actively begin the tanking process for the remainder of the season.
Yet, this season hasn’t been typical with many teams all clumped together given the quick turnaround of the season start due to the pandemic. That means a solid week or two of performances can quickly raise a team up the standings.
With news Zion Williamson was cleared for contact and gearing up his conditioning it seemed to buoy the spirits of his teammates who’ve played .500 ball through their last ten matches registering a 5-5 record.
The surprise star of the win in LA was Jonas Valanciunas who went absolutely lethal from behind the arc hitting seven (of eight) 3-pointers.
JV finished with a career-best 39 points and 15 rebounds for his double-double adding three assists, and two steals. Brandon Ingram pitched in 27 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
Rookie Herbert Jones was impressive contributing 16 points, four rebounds (two on the offensive glass), an assist, two steals, and a block.
Zion Williamson (foot) is progressing in his conditioning but has no definitive return date. Didi Louzada was suspended for 25 games due to violating the NBA anti-drug policy and Daulton Hommes (fibula) is out.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Mavericks are 7-3 in their last 10 head to head contests
- The Mavericks are 7-3 ATS in the last 10 head to head meetings
- Over Under is 5-5 in the team’s last 10 head to head matchups
Free Dallas Mavericks vs. New Orleans Pelicans NBA Prediction
If the Pelicans use Valanciunas and their length they could pose some issues for the Mavericks but Doncic was ticked after the loss to the Cavaliers and I’d expect a big game from the superstar.
