The Dallas Mavericks will be on the road to take on the Houston Rockets on Friday, January 7th.
The tip-off is set for 8:00 ET from Toyota Center.
The Mavs are a 1 point favorite in every spot that I have checked. Also, the total has not moved from the opener of 216.5, but I would expect that to change between now and the tip-off on Friday.
Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks have played decent this year, but they have certainly not played up to their potential. So far, it is definitely fair to say that they have been a frustrating team. Maybe they will be better in the year 2022.
With that said, they have won four games in a row and they will look to make it a fifth when they take on the Rockets. If they are on their game, Dallas should be able to get the victory.
Before the season started, a lot of people thought this squad could be a contender in the West. Sure, they may not be on the same level as the Warriors or the Suns, but they are still a very dangerous team when they are on their game.
Yes, they have dealt with injuries, but the big message that this team has to understand is they are not good enough to win it all as presently constituted. Luka is a great player, but he needs a better supporting cast if they are ever going to achieve their ultimate goal.
Dallas beat the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday by a score of 99-82. The defense for the Mavs did a very good job when it came to defending Steph Curry, as he only had 14 points on the night. Not many teams can say that they held him to that few points.
Luka Doncic was the leading scorer for his team in their last win, as he had 26 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists. Dorian Finney-Smith also chipped in 17 points and 9 boards. Even though the team did not score a ton of points, a lot of different people stepped up on the offensive of the ball.
Houston Rockets
Things have really not gone so well for this Rockets team this season. That should not come as a surprise to people because they were not expected to have much success in the 2021-2022 season.
Houston has a record of 11-28, which puts them in the basement of the Western Conference. Unless something crazy happens, they will likely stay in that spot for the whole season.
Even though they have not done a ton of winning, I still feel there are some things they can build off of. It is not as if this roster has no talent on it, but a lot of the players are still very young and have not fully developed yet. I know fans do not want to hear this, but they are going to need to have patience with them.
The Rockets picked up a win over the Washington Wizards on Wednesday by a score of 114-111. That was an impressive victory over a team that is better than they are. They will look to use that momentum when they face the Mavs on Friday.
Both Jalen Green and Christian Wood had 22 points in the win over DC. Eric Gordon also added on 19 points and 3 assists.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Mavericks are 5-2 ATS in their last 7 games.
- The Mavericks are 5-1 SU in their last 6 games.
- The Rockets are 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games.
- The total has gone under in 13 of Houston’s last 20 games against Dallas.
Dallas Mavericks vs. Houston Rockets NBA Analysis:
After the Rockets beat the Wizards, I want to see how they play against the Mavs. Will they once again play up to their competition or will they revert back to what they have been?
In this spot, Dallas cannot have a letdown moment. It was great they beat one of the best teams in the league in the Warriors, but now their focus has to shift to Houston and they need to put that win behind them.
Dallas really needs to be able to win games like these. I get that their opponent can be tricky, but it would be a pretty bad look to drop to the Rockets.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Mavericks ATS
I know there is talk that some key guys for the Mavs will not play in this game, but I still like them.
Even if some guys are missing for Dallas, I look for other people to step up. That has happened in previous games and I look for them to do more of the same when they face Houston.
