Saturday, December 17th the Dallas Mavericks and Cleveland Cavaliers meeting for the second and final time this season. The Cavaliers won the initial meeting 105-90 earlier this week on December 14th in Dallas.
Both teams are completing a back-to-back set having played Friday with the Mavericks beating the Blazers 130-110 while the Cavaliers defeated the Pacers 118-112.
Last season the teams played twice with each team winning on the road. The Cavaliers hold the all-time record having bested the Mavericks in 41 of their 81 matches.

Dallas Mavericks
Bad news for the Mavericks who learned Maxi Kleber tore his hamstring which will sideline him for an extended period. It’s been an injury-riddled season for Kleber who previously dealt with foot and knee injuries and now will miss up to two months.
While his 3-point shooting will be missed the Mavs will feel his absence more so on the defensive end of the floor. To wit, Dallas opponents score 6.1 fewer points per 100 possessions when Kleber is on the court and were 1-5 in games he’d missed prior to Friday’s match.
Luka Doncic led the way in the victory Friday with 33 points, six rebounds and nine assists in just 29 minutes on the court while Christian Wood already had a double-double of 32 points and 12 rebounds.
Doncic is averaging 33.1 points, 8.6 rebounds, 8.8 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Luka gets to the line 10.4 times per game shooting 71.8 percent. He’s taking 22.8 field goal attempts per match hitting 50 percent and 8.3 long balls connecting at 34.1 percent efficiency.
The Mavericks score 111.1 points per game ranking 21st overall. As for their efficiency, they shoot 46.6% from the field and 35.7%.from the perimeter ranking 18th and 15th respectively.
On defense, the Mavs rank sixth for opponent scoring allowing 109.9 points per game with foes shooting 48.5% from the field and 37.0% from the perimeter ranking 27th and 24th respectively.
Davis Bertans (illness) is questionable while Josh Green (elbow sprain) is out. McKinley Wright IV is on G League assignment. Maxi Kleber (torn hamstring) is out indefinitely.
Cleveland Cavaliers
Donovan Mitchell led the Cavs in the win versus the Pacers scoring 41 points while Darius Garland delivered a double-double of 20 points and 10 assists.
Evan Mobley was one rebound shy of a double-double (16 points, nine rebounds) while Cedi Osman was the only other double-figure contributor with 14 points.
Mitchell leads his squad with 29 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 4.7 assists while shooting 49.6 percent from the field on 20.6 attempts, 41.9 percent from deep on 9.0 attempts, and 89.1 percent from the line on 5.4 attempts.
Offensively, Cleveland scores 110.9 points per game ranking 24th while shooting 47.8% from the field and 37.0%, and the perimeter ranking eighth in both categories.
Cleveland tops the league for opponent scoring limiting foes to an average of 104.8 points per game. Cavs opponents shoot 45.7% from the field and 34.8% from deep which ranks sixth and 11th respectively.
Mamadi Diakite is on G-League assignment. Dean Wade (shoulder), Dylan Windler (ankle), and Ricky Rubio (ACL surgery) are out indefinitely.

It’s unusual for opposite-coast teams to play matches so closely together with only one game in between but that’s where the Cavs and Mavs find themselves.
In the initial contest, however, old rivalries played a role as Mitchell cited being ousted by the Mavericks in last season’s playoffs as the fuel for his motivation to beat Dallas.
The Cavs dominated Dallas on the glass (43 to 33) and scoring in the paint (52 to 26) in Dallas which are the key areas the Mavs will need to clean up if they want to split the season series.
With the Mavs pulling ahead early Friday, it afforded Jason Kidd the opportunity to rest his core so I’ll take the points and the Mavs getting revenge for the loss earlier this week.
