2019-2020 NBA Previews – Mavericks Odds
Looking for 2019 Dallas Mavericks Predictions? With Kristaps Porzingis presumably back to full health, and Luka Doncic likely taking another step forward, it is not hard to see why there is some optimism for this 19-20 edition of the Dallas Mavericks. The big question mark is just how healthy Porzingis is, but it looks like the Mavericks are not too concerned as they signed him to a deal worth in excess of 150 million dollars. There is a lot riding on this season for the Mavs, will Rick Carlisle’s guys deliver?

If Porzingis comes back healthy this could be a legitimate playoff team in 19-20 and that would be a massive improvement on last year. They managed to sign Seth Curry in the offseason who looked impressive down the stretch for the Trailblazers last year and should help this Mavericks side with perimeter scoring.
They also picked up Delon Wright who averaged around 12 points 5 boards and 5 assists last year with the Grizzlies. Although he is projected as the weakest player in the projected starting 5 as he should end up being the starting point guard. Despite that fact I get the feeling he will excel with so much talent around him.
With NBA season just around the corner, all the questions surrounding this Mavericks team will be answered soon.
Dallas Mavericks Strengths:
European 1-2 Punch
Without a doubt the strongest part of this team is their dynamic duo from Europe. Luka Doncic was everything the Mavs could have asked for when they got him in a trade during last year’s draft and although Trae Young is a nice player the Mavs definitely won that trade. He managed 21.2 points per game with a 42.7% FG percentage while chipping in with 7.8 rebounds and 6 assists per game.

Porzingis also had similar output during his last season before getting injured and appeared to be getting better based on season-on-season stats. The sky might be the limit if Porzingis is the same player Knicks fans remember and Doncic takes another step forward in his development.
The Bench
The bench really is loaded for the Mavs and is easily a top 10 bench in the league. Guys like Maxi Kleber who showed a lot of promise last year and even getting some starts comes off the bench and we should see him be improved this year as well as he seemed to get better throughout the year. JJ Barea and Seth Curry also come off the bench here and will provide plenty of perimeter scoring during the 19-20 season.
Even with the star power this team has at the top end it is certainly not a stretch to imagine this bench winning the Mavs plenty of games this year.
Dallas Mavericks Weaknesses:
Starting Lineup Strength
This does not pertain to Doncic or Porzingis (assuming he is still the same guy after a 20 month absence), but guys like Delon Wright and Dwight Powell. Delon Wright is a decent basketball player and I think he will improve a bit given the talent around him, but it could all go terribly wrong as well.
He is not a guy that inspires confidence in a playoff run (especially in the west) given the fact he really only started to get legitimate starter minutes with a rebuilding Grizzlies squad last year. He did okay with that time, and he might improve, but you can’t really rate him any higher then a C+ PG at this point.

Dwight Powell was pretty mediocre last year and many people think the Mavericks massively overpaid giving him a 3 year contract worth 33 million. He is also a big question mark for me here and I am not confident he will spend the entire year in the starting lineup with such a talented bench.
Dallas Mavericks Betting Prediction: 40-42
I think this will be a good season for the Mavs that will see them fighting for the 8 spot well into March/April. In terms of the western conference they share probably the softest division out of the three. I also believe the bench will be great for this Mavs side and that consistency will be key for a team led by a sophomore and a guy coming off of a 20 month layoff.
The defense is not terrible by any means and I don’t think it is crazy to imagine Porzingis getting back to the elite level he once played at with the Knicks even if that doesn’t happen in the first month of the season.
I would look for this team to start pretty slow before putting some kind of run together that gets people talking. This team, if everything goes perfect, seems like the sky is the limit and the possibility of an upset in the first round of the playoffs would not be out of the question.
