The Cleveland Cavaliers will be on the road to take on the San Antonio Spurs on Friday, January 14th.
The tip-off is set for 8:30 ET from AT&T Center.
Cleveland started off as 3.5 point favorite and that number is now down to 3. The total has gone from 223.5 to 224.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers have played well this year and I really like the direction they are headed in. It is a good sign to see that team is relevant again.
This team has won their last two games and they should be able to make it a third in a row on Friday, but as we know, no win is guaranteed.
Before the season started, I do not think anyone had them being this good. Sure, they might have thought they would be better, but this is a crew that has certainly exceeded expectations.
When I think of the best teams in the East, I do not quite put them in the mix, but I would put them in the tier below. For me, teams such as the Bulls, Nets, and Bucks are in a different category.
Cleveland picked up a win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday by a score of 111-91. That was a very impressive victory over one of the best teams in the Western Conference and they will look to build off of that when they face off with San Antonio.
Offensively, they were quite effective and well-balanced in their last game. The leading scorer was Lamar Stevens, who had 23 points and 7 rebounds. Lauri Markkanen chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds as well.
San Antonio Spurs
The Spurs have just simply not played all that well this year. At times, they look good, but they have not done it on a consistent enough level.
San Antonio comes into this games with a record of 15-26, which puts them in 12th place in the Western Conference. They have a lot of work to do if they wish to gain ground in the standings.
To me, the struggles for this team are really not all that surprising. They do have a few nice players, but they just don’t have enough talent to compete with the better teams in their conference. If they keep this up, they will just continue to be a middling team in the West.
These guys lost to the Houston Rockets by a score of 128-124 on Wednesday. That was a very bad loss for them over one of the worst teams in basketball.
The offense was not the issue for them in their last game, but the defense just did not play well enough. You cannot allow almost 130 points and actually think you are going to win games. It will not be any easier for this group when they try and slow down a very good offense in the Cavs.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Cavaliers are 4-2 ATS in their last 6 games against San Antonio.
- The Cavaliers are 4-2 SU in their last 6 games.
- The Spurs are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 games.
- The Spurs are 1-8 SU in their last 9 games.
Cleveland Cavaliers vs. San Antonio Spurs NBA Analysis:
Cleveland has taken two out of their first three games on their West Coast trip and they will look to get their third win on the trip come Friday. Of course, it would be much better to be 3-1 than it would be to just .500.
After picking up a nice win over the Jazz in their last game, the Cavs have to once again take care of their business. It would be a bad look if they knocked off one of the best teams in the league and then lost to San Antonio.
The Spurs may not win this game, but I do feel they will play a bit better than they did in their last game. The loss to Houston may have been the lowest part of their season, so they have to come out much sharper and with more focus in this game.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Cavs ATS
Cleveland was already a confident bunch, but I expect that to be the case even more so on Friday in San Antonio. I look for them to carry over that momentum they had in the win over Utah to the game on Friday.
The Spurs have struggled on defense for a good majority of the season and they will once again have their hands full with this Cleveland crew. I just do not feel they will be able to make stops on a consistent enough level.
