Cleveland Cavaliers
As suspected, Darius Garland has been ruled out for Cleveland’s game Wednesday against Orlando.
That’s the second of two against the Magic, which won the first by twenty points. Isaac Okoro, the fifth overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, is out too. Of course, so is Kevin Love.
Cleveland will have trouble in that game and this one may be even tougher if neither Garland nor Okoro are ready to return.
That said, Collin Sexton remains active and he’s had a tremendous start to this his third professional season.
The former eighth overall pick out of Alabama is averaging over 25 points per game on better than 60 percent effective field goal percentage, including .542 from three-point range.
Memphis Grizzlies
Of course, Memphis has injuries of its own, including to its star Ja Morant.
That’s a shame because the Sexton/Morant matchup would have been something to see in the early going this season.
The Grizzlies have also been without Jaren Jackson Jr., who is listed as day-to-day with a foot injury despite not having appeared in a game yet this season. Jackson should not be out much longer but it’ unclear when he will debut.
The Grizzlies have struggled without their star player and Jackson but they have some nice pieces that have had a chance for more exposure in the interim.
Dillon Brooks established himself last season as a 16-point-per-game scorer and he’s building on that reputation as a scorer this season. His percentages are down a bit because he’s had to carry the load but he’s a legitimate option.
Then there’s Kyle Anderson, who is having his finest year as a pro in his seventh season. He came into this year never having averaged more than eight points per game in a season. He’s up near 16 per game now.
Anderson’s scoring may not persist when Morant returns but that’s still a ways off. In the meantime, the available shots are his opportunity.

Free Cleveland Cavaliers vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction: Cavs.
Memphis is only as big a favorite as it is because Cleveland is on the back-to-back.
Even without Garland and Okoro, the Cavs could keep this close but what I’m banking on by locking Cleveland in early is that at least one returns for this one.
