Saturday, November 10 finds the Cleveland Cavaliers meeting up vs. the Chicago Bulls as they enter their first full month of play in the 2018-19 regular season. In the Cavaliers last game they lost to the OKC Thunder while the Bulls lost to the New Orleans Pelicans.
An interesting dynamic has developed over the past two seasons in the regular season series. In 2017-18 the Cavs swept the Bulls, but the year prior the Bulls swept the season series.
The Bulls hold the all-time record having bested the Cavaliers in 122 of their 211 matches.
Despite losing the game six players registered double digit scoring in the match versus the OKC Thunder. Collin Sexton led the way with 15 points while J.R. Smith (13), Rodney Hood (11), Jordan Clarkson (11), Tristan Thompson (10) and Ante Zizic (10) also chipped in.
Atlanta is the only team the Cavaliers have bested this season and turmoil is running amok with J.R. Smith requesting a trade, reported chemistry issues between rookie Sexton and the vets and Larry Drew wanting a long term coach commitment instead of interim. Suffice to say, life with LeBron has its challenges.
Cedi Osman (lower-back spasms) and it is unknown if he will be available against the Bulls on Saturday. George Hill (sprained right shoulder) will miss at least two weeks. Sam Dekker (sprained left ankle) expected to miss two-to-four weeks. Kevin Love (left big toe surgery) and is expected to be sidelined for approximately two months.
Despite having only three wins to their credit the Bulls have a bevy of youthful talent poised well to compete in the future. Zach LaVine is among the league leaders in scoring (27.4 points per game) and is definitely fully recovered from last season’s knee injury.
Sophomore Lauri Markkanen is expected back this month which if nothing else will give head coach Fred Hoiberg an idea of how his new front court will mesh moving forward.
Chicago is struggling to make a mark on either side of the hardwood ranking 22nd offensively and 25th defensively, however their eighth ranked perimeter efficiency is a positive to build upon.
Bobby Portis (sprained MCL in right knee) will miss between four-to-six weeks. Kris Dunn (sprained left MCL) is expected out for up to four-to-six weeks to recover. Denzel Valentine (left ankle sprain) will be held out an extended period with no confirmed return date. Markkanen (right lateral elbow sprain) expected out until the end of November.
