Prior to the roster upgrades, it felt like the Cavaliers’ hot start might adjust to the mean. Instead, they’re looking more confident and have increased their odds of returning to the postseason.
The Cavaliers also sent the league notice of how porous the Nets defense is, beating them 147-135 in overtime and 125-113 in the follow-up game. Did I mention the Cavaliers had the 30th ranked offense prior to these two games?
Collin Sexton followed up his 42 point night Wednesday with 25 points and nine assists. Andre Drummond (19 points, 16 rebounds) and Larry Nance Jr. (15 points, 10 rebounds) each produced double-double efforts.
Darius Garland added 11 points while new Cavaliers Allen (19) and Prince (14) delivered against their former team.
Kevin Love (calf) is expected to remain out until February while Matthew Dellavedova (concussion) is out indefinitely.
Boston Celtics
It’s been a rough stretch for the Celtics as they dealt with numerous injuries and players addressing the health and safety protocols.
In particular, the absence of Jayson Tatum has affected the club’s ability to function effectively as they dropped three games in a row including two to the 76ers.
In the most recent loss, Jaylen Brown tried to will his team to the win creating close to 40 percent of the Celtics offense via 42 points plus added nine rebounds.
Marcus Smart (20) and Kemba Walker (19) were the only other double-figure contributors
Tacko Fall (ankle) missed the last three games while Carsen Edwards (illness) missed the last four with both listed as questionable for Sunday.
Aaron Nesmith (back) is doubtful versus the Cavs. Payton Pritchard (Grade 1, MCL sprain), Jayson Tatum (health and safety protocols), and Romeo Langford (wrist) are all projected to be out until February.
