Chicago Bulls

The Bulls lost their game in Mexico City to Orlando and Jabari Parker played just four minutes. The newest report is that Parker is no longer part of Chicago’s regular rotation.

So while there’s still time for things to change, the early indication is that Chicago will pass on that $20 million team option for next season. There’s no option to not pay him the $20 million he gets for this season, unfortunately.

The returns of Kris Dunn, Bobby Portis and, even to an extent, Lauri Markkanen have something to do with Parker’s demotion. Had Denzel Valentine not been hurt, too, it could have happened even sooner.

Portis and Dunn have each just been back for two games and both guys have come off the bench. You have to think Dunn will get his starting spot back over Ryan Arcidiacano before long, at least.

Chicago has dug itself way too deep to consider getting back into any sort of contention now that it has some of its core guys back, even in the terrible Eastern Conference. It should, however, certainly be able to beat out the Hawks and Cavaliers to stay out of the cellar.

San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs have swept the first four games of a six-game homestand and this game, plus one more with Philadelphia remain.

San Antonio beat the Clippers by thirty-eight on Thursday! DeMar DeRozan had a quite fourteen point; Rudy Gay and LaMarcus Aldridge led the way, combining for forty-eight.

Gay has been terrific in twenty-five games this season. He’s been under fifty effective field goal percentage for his entire career and this season he’s up close to sixty, shooting 48.5 percent from three, second only to Stephen Curry in the entire NBA. He’s shooting a career-high 53.5 percent from two, too.

Fourteen out of the fifteen teams in the Western Conference have at least thirteen wins. As it stands now, four wins in a row aren’t quite enough to have San Antonio in the first eight but the Spurs are right there in the mishmash.

San Antonio doesn’t want to miss a chance to pick up an easy win against one of the worst teams in the NBA and is certainly won’t, you would think.
