Saturday, December 11th, finds the Chicago Bulls facing the Miami Heat in their second meeting of this season. In the initial meeting on November 27th, the Heat won 107-104.
Both teams last played on Wednesday with the Bulls losing 92-115 to the Cavaliers while the Heat beat the Bucks 113-104. Similarly, both clubs are shorthanded dealing with injuries or health and safety protocols.
Last season the clubs played three times with the Heat winning two of the three contests. The Bulls hold the all-time record with 60 wins in 119 matches versus the Heat.
Chicago Bulls
Although the Bulls have dealt with the loss of Patrick Williams for the season and initially to the loss of DeMar DeRozan they’ll be tested in the next few games with two players testing positive for COVID-19 and another three in quarantine.
Zach LaVine probably felt like he was playing for his old Bulls squad where he was required to carry so much of the load. With the Bulls depth, he hasn’t been pressed in that manner, and since it should be a short-term thing he’ll be fine channeling his former self.
He delivered a 32 point, eight assists against the Nuggets in a match Chicago won versus Denver and although he followed it up 23 points, nine assists, and four rebounds in the loss to the Cavaliers.
Nikola Vucevic posted a double-double of 18 points and 12 rebounds plus two blocks. Lonzo Ball scored 19 hitting four of his nine 3-point attempts while Derrick Jones Jr. added 11 as the other double-figure scorer.
As noted, the Bulls are navigating the combination of injuries and health and safety protocols. DeMar DeRozan and Derrick Jones Jr. are both out indefinitely with COVID-19. Coby White, Matt Thomas and Javonte Green are all in quarantine.
In some positive news, Alex Caruso (hamstring) was upgraded to questionable after missing games the past week. Patrick Williams (thumb) is out for the season.
Miami Heat
Similar to the Bulls the Heat are dealing with missing core players but the two out for Miami are arguably their best two players — Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo.
Butler had missed four games after a hard fall that injured his tailbone and in his first game back from that injury took another tumble. He was shoved in the back by a Memphis player (uncalled foul) re-injuring the tailbone and forcing him to exit early and kept him out of the last match.
Undeterred, Kyle Lowry channeled his former self where he carried more of the scoring load and led the Heat to an impressive win over the Bucks. He produced a double-double of 22 points and 13 assists plus two rebounds.
Caleb Martin is a player on the rise who is eating up his extra playing time with Butler and Adebayo out. Against Milwaukee he was the top scorer (28) in the game adding eight rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
Max Strus (16), PJ Tucker (15) and KZ, Okpala (10) were the other double-figure scorers.
Jimmy Butler (tailbone) and Tyler Herro (illness) missed the game Monday and are questionable for Wednesday and the injury report is growing with Bam Adebayo (thumb) and Dewayne Dedmon (knee) also questionable.
Markieff Morris (neck) and Victor Oladipo (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat NBA Prediction:
Neither team has a rest advantage and both are missing core players so I’m leaning to the home side plus the veteran leadership of Lowry and if Butler returns it makes the case even stronger.
