The NBA is offering a full slate of games on Martin Luther King Jr. Day with the Memphis Grizzlies one of the priority matches of the day as they host the Chicago Bulls in a matinee. The clubs will play once more this season in Chicago on February 26th.
The Grizzlies last played Friday losing to 85-112 to the Mavericks bringing their 11 game win streak to an end while the Bulls played Saturday in a 112-114 loss to the Celtics.
Last season the clubs played twice with Memphis winning both contests. The Bulls hold the all-time record with 29 wins in 51 matches versus the Grizzlies.
Chicago Bulls
Although the Bulls still sit atop the Eastern Conference their lead has narrowed to a single game after Chicago lost their third game in a row and four of the last five.
They’ve had a tough stretch of games lately facing elite clubs like the Warriors, Nets, and Mavericks but the loss to the Celtics was rough given they were leading by six points with under two minutes remaining.
DeMar DeRozan had an opportunity to play hero again with the final shot to tie or win but this time he was unsuccessful. Nikola Vucevic led the way with 27 points along with six rebounds, six assists, two steals, and a block.
Unfortunately, a stellar performance by Rookie Ayo Dosunmu didn’t equate to the victory as he achieved career highs in both points (21) and assists (10) night with his double-double. His prior highs were 18 points and eight assists.
DeRozan and Coby White registered 23 and 19 points respectively as the other double-figure contributors.
Lonzo Ball (knee) is questionable while Zach LaVine (knee), Derrick Jones Jr. (knee), Alex Caruso (foot/conditioning), Tyler Cook (ankle), and Javonte Green (groin) are all out Monday. Patrick Williams (thumb) is lost for the season.
Memphis Grizzlies
The Grizzlies were due for a loss after 11 consecutive wins and the Mavericks sort of lucked out in the timing of the match. Memphis was playing their third game in four days, the fifth of the week, and their second back-to-back set in that same period. No doubt fatigue was setting in.
Rising superstar Ja Morant flirted with a double-double serving up 19 points with eight assists, adding five rebounds, and two steals, but his eight turnovers hinted at his own level of fatigue.
Desmond Bane offered 16 points with six rebounds while Kyle Anderson scored 12 points adding five rebounds. That trio was the only Grizzlies who scored in double-figures. Steven Adams was back but the Grizzlies elected to bring him off the bench staring Brandon Clarke instead.
Although the Grizzlies hung tight in the first half they only managed 30 points in the second half as their fatigue became more obvious.
Yves Pons (quarantine) is questionable for Monday. Killian Tillie is out indefinitely while Dillon Brooks (ankle) will miss between three and five weeks with a bad ankle sprain.

Free Chicago Bulls vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
The two days off for Memphis will have provided much-needed rest as they seek to start a new winning streak while the Bulls are desperate to regain their winning ways. Without Caruso and potentially Ball I like the Grizzlies to win the match but like the Bulls to keep it closer than the 5.5 point spread.
