Chicago Bulls
Halfway home on a four-game West Coast road trip, the Bulls have two games in Los Angeles against the Lakers and Clippers.
They started the trip with a win in Portland before losing a close game in Sacramento Wednesday, 128–124.
Chicago got 68 points from Zach LaVine and Coby White and the Kings lost De’Aaron Fox early in the game to a hamstring injury but it was the second game in two nights for the Bulls, who just came up short.
Chicago forced just seven turnovers and the Kings got three three-pointers each from Harrison Barnes, Marvin Bagley and Tyrese Haliburton.
Lauri Markkanen, the talented 23-year-old from Finland, missed his fifth consecutive game in the health and safety protocol.
He’ll miss this game too and the Bulls will miss him. Markkanen is averaging over 17 points per game this season (on nearly 48 percent from three-point range), offensive firepower the Bulls could use in the front court.
Then there’s Patrick Williams, who got knocked on Wednesday, left the game, and went into concussion protocol. It’s possible he’ll play Friday, if he’s cleared, but the Bulls will be abundantly cautious with their lottery pick.
Los Angeles Lakers
But the Lakers may not be any more better off than the Bulls on the injury front in this one.
Both LeBron James and Anthony Davis are questionable for the Lakers’ game Thursday night against the Spurs. Of course, this one being the second night of a back-to-back only further complicates the situation.
The reigning champions are deeper than they were last season, however. Not only are both Kyle Kuzma and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope off to better starts this season than last year, the new additions are proving to be upgrades.
Dennis Schroder is producing even more than Rajon Rondo a season ago and the combination of Montrezl Harrell and Marc Gasol looks better than Dwight Howard and JaVale McGee.
NBA Betting Trends:
- CHI are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 Fri. games.
- LAL are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 vs. NBA Central.
- Under is 7-3 in LAL last 10 vs. Eastern Conference.
- Head to Head: Under is 21-10 in the last 31 meetings.
Free Chicago Bulls vs. Los Angeles Lakers NBA Prediction: this one could be ugly.
There won’t be word on either James or Davis until much closer to game time on Friday. As it stands now, there’s a strong possibility one or both may miss this one.
Given all the missing players on both sides, this one has potential to be ugly. Could it be a game down in the 90s or a shootout with no defense? Tough to tell.
