Early odds are hard to come by for the Saturday night NBA affair between the Chicago Bulls and the Houston Rockets. This is because both teams are in action Friday and will be playing in leg 2 of a back-to-back when they meet up at the Honda Center.
When the line does come out, expect the Rockets to be fairly significant home court favorites. Both teams are on the road Friday, but Chicago has to fly from Detroit to Houston while the Rockets are away – but an hour flight away in San Antonio. The Rockets haven’t had much of a home court advantage so far in 2018, going just 4-5 at the Honda Center. That still a much better edge than the Bulls have after winning only 2 games on the road this season.
Chicago Bulls
The Bulls have the talent to compete in this game even after a back-to-back. Zach Lavine has been one of the most consistent scorers in the league this season and he’s gone for 24+ in each of five games since sitting out with an illness. Jabari Parker has picked up his production to form a nice inside-out combination with Lavine. In the last five games Parker has scored 20+ four times and also has three double-digit rebound contests over that span. When you throw in the solid minutes that PG Ryan Arcidiacono (consecutive 22 point nights) has put in does Chicago have upset on their minds?

Of course the Bulls defense has a huge challenge Saturday night playing on a B2B vs. the fast paced Houston offense. Then again, Houston pushing the tempo is actually a misconception this season as they rank 27th in possessions per game. Expect a high scoring night however as the Bulls will not only be in a back-to-back, but also have allowed 110+ in 6 of 8 games. Chicago is actually playing their 3rd game in 4 nights after hanging close with Milwaukee 113-116 on Wednesday. Those three road contests have to catch up eventually.

Another big factor pointing to a Rockets blowout is that Chicago’s offense just can’t survive a shootout. Yes, Lavine and Parker have been productive but they aren’t getting much help. The Bulls are 28th in the NBA in points/game and have been held to 96 points or less in three of six.
Houston Rockets
There was a time when Houston would be in a vulnerable position of looking past an opponent like Chicago but the truth is the Rockets need any and all games right now. The Rockets sub .500 start actually has them in 2nd to last in the Western Conference ahead of only the Suns. Yes James Harden has been his usual great self going for 33+ in five of the last six but can he carry the Rockets on a B2B? Every Rockets starter played 32+ minutes on Wednesday and Saturday night will also be their 3rd game in four nights.

Something else to consider in the Bulls/Rockets matchup is the fact that the Houston offense simply isn’t what it used to be. The Rockets are just 20th in the league in points/game and their 3-point shooting is especially down at 33.8% (24th in league). A team that’s shooting poor on a 3 games in 4 nights stretch is a very dangerous play especially if the spread is as high as expected.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Bulls are 5-2 ATS their last 7 vs. Western Conference
- Rockets are 0-5 ATS their last five overall
- Rockets are 0-4 ATS their last four vs. Eastern Conference
Free Chicago Bulls vs. Houston Rockets NBA Prediction:
Both teams are in a tough spot playing on back-to-back nights. The Houston Rockets do have a bit of a travel advantage but they also have the older roster that will see their minutes reduced Saturday. Houston is still superior in talent but enough for a blowout win on tired legs?
