Wednesday, December 8th the Chicago Bulls face the Cleveland Cavaliers for the first meeting between the clubs in the 2021-22 season. Both teams last played on Monday with the Cavaliers losing 104-112 to the Bucks and the Bulls beating the Nuggets 109-97.
Last season the teams played three times with the Cavaliers winning two of the three contests. The Bulls hold the all-time record having bested the Cavaliers in 129 of their 222 matches.
Chicago Bulls
Shortly after learning he had won the Eastern Conference Player of the Week, DeMar DeRozan found out he’d be missing the match versus the Nuggets and entering the NBA health and safety program.
DeRozan is the third Bulls player (Coby White, Javonte Green) to be affected. It’s assumed the Bulls were likely exposed a week ago Monday (Nov. 29) when they played the Hornets who have four players in the protocols.
In spite of missing their closer, the Bulls were able to get the win against the Nuggets who are also shorthanded. Zach LaVine led the way with a game-high 32 points plus eight assists.
Lonzo Ball and Nicola Vucevic served up identical 20 points, 10 rebounds double-doubles. While the Bulls are shorthanded others will need to step up and rookie Ayo Dosunmu took the challenge literally, scoring 11 points with eight assists.
Keep an eye on this rookie who I predict will thrive with the extra playing time and force Billy Donovan to continue playing him once players return.
Alex Caruso is also out with a sore hamstring and will be re-evaluated in a week.
Cleveland Cavaliers
The Cavaliers four-game win streak ended with the one-point loss to the Jazz but there was no time to mope with the Bucks on tap in the second game of the back-to-back.
Giannis Antetokounmpo was back and he was the difference in the game handing Cleveland their second loss in as many nights although the Cavs fought to the buzzer.
Typically the size of the Cavs equates to them winning the glass (39-53) and paint battles (38-44) but surprisingly they lost both to Milwaukee as well as fast break scoring (5-19). Suffice to say the Bucks benefited from their rest and hey they are the defending champs.
That said it was the Cavs’ big men who kept them in the match. Specifically, the quartet of Jarrett Allen (25 points, nine rebounds), Lauri Markkanen (20 points, seven rebounds), Kevin Love (15 points all on 3-point shots), and Evan Mobley (12 points, six rebounds.
Darius Garland flirted with a double-double scoring 10 points and dishing nine dimes.
Dylan Windler (back) is questionable for Wednesday. Collin Sexton (knee) is gone for the remainder of the season.
NBA Betting Trends:

Free Chicago Bulls vs. Cleveland Cavaliers NBA Prediction
The win versus the Nuggets proved how deep the Bulls are but now they’ll need to show they are also adaptable as they try to solve the length puzzle of the Cavs. Similarly, the Cavaliers will need to stop the myriad of Bulls’ offensively versatile guards and wings.
Although Chicago is deep I don’t think they have the players to address the four bigs on Cleveland and while Vucevic has improved in recent games he’s still not a defensive-minded player.
