The Bulls got their first win of the season on Wednesday at home against the same Hornets team it will play on the road on Friday.
At least the two get the day in-between to travel and rest up. The Bulls are dealing with all sorts of injuries at the moment that have the fans feeling a little pessimistic to start the season.
Not only have Denzel Valentine and Lauri Markkanen not appeared in a game yet this season, Kris Dunn hurt his knee and it’s been recently revealed it’s a little more than a bump. He’ll be out a month or two with an MCL sprain.
That leaves the point guard duties in the hands of Cameron Payne and Ryan Arcidiacano, who played seventeen minutes against Charlotte on Wednesday. Payne dropped twenty-one points in thirty-one minutes.
The main scoring responsibilities on the wing have shifted squarely on Zach LaVine, Bobby Portis and Jabari Parker. That isn’t a terrible unit but it’s being asked to do too much right now without the services of Valentine and Markkanen.
Neither of those guys are expected to be out for more than a few more weeks. If the Bulls can somehow manage to get through the next few weeks without Valentine, Markkanen and Dunn, it will feel like a huge lift as they get those guys back, one-by-one. Whether they can manage, though, is a realistic question.
Charlotte has to be kicking itself a little for letting the Bulls get them, even if the game was in Chicago, on Wednesday. There’s no way the Hornets are letting it happen in Charlotte.
Kemba Walker, once again, led the team in scoring with twenty-three. It’s early, but he’s averaging thirty-three points per through five games with a whooping twenty-four shot attempts per game, up from seventeen last season. He’s still young and determined now but he can’t go like this forever. He needs some help.
He actually got some of it on Wednesday. Five other Hornets were in double-figures, including Tony Parker off the bench.
Frank Kaminsky, the ninth-overall pick in the 2015 Draft, didn’t play against Chicago for the third time in five games. It appears Kaminsky has been a healthy scratch in all three DNPs. He’s played meager minutes and scored just four points total in the two games he has appeared in.

Free Chicago Bulls vs. Charlotte Hornets NBA Prediction: Charlotte.
I don’t love the Hornets, not by a long shot, but they should not let this game get away from them after losing in Chicago on Wednesday. The Bulls will be beaten in this one.
