Charlotte Hornets
Charlotte is a middling team. It has just about alternated wins and losses for the entire month of February.
The most recent game was a loss in Golden State Friday, 130–121. The Warriors repaid the Hornets for what transpired in Charlotte less than a week before and covered the spread in victory.
Terry Rozier and LaMelo Ball combined for 46 points in the starting backcourt but Malik Monk continued his hot scoring off the bench in the loss.
Monk had another 25 points in 25 minutes off the pine. It was his third consecutive 20-point game and fourth in the last five games.
Monk has played an especially big role of late with Devonte’ Graham still sidelined with a knee problem. Monk is shooting 47 percent from three so he won’t fade away even if Graham does return soon.
Sacramento Kings
There are two teams in each conference with a record worse than Sacramento’s.
The Kings have won just once in the last three weeks and that came in their most recent game, Friday night in Detroit, 110–107.
The five starters combined for 100 points to snap the team’s nine-game losing streak.
De’Aaron Fox led the way with 27 points. Harrison Barnes had 21. Tyrese Haliburton missed the game with a calf injury that has him listed as day-to-day.
A couple years ago, it looked like Sacramento might be onto something with its young talent starting to develop a winning culture.
That never turned into an open window and now the Kings are reaching the point where another re-build may be around the corner.
Fox is signed for the next five years, Buddy Hield the next three, and Barnes the next two. Unless the Kings can move any of them, their flexibility will be limited.
What they can focus on, if they are going to continue to draft high in the lottery, is hitting on picks and building a core that way. It seems the Haliburton pick last year is a good step in that direction.

Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction: Kings in a shootout.
The Kings aren’t any less talented than the Hornets. Charlotte has not been good on the road this season so I’ll take the Kings, gun to my head.
It should be a high-scoring game.
