Orlando finally got their first win since losing point guard Markelle Fultz when they won at Minnesota during the week. Perfect team perfect time.
They then went out and lost the next one. This team is still pretty lost right now.
These teams are going to play today and tomorrow, both in Orlando. It is a nice spot for one to get on a run.
Charlotte Hornets
After winning four games in a row the Hornets lost four in a row. That is a streak they are hoping to break in this one.
That included back to back three-point losses at Toronto in the middle. The loss to Chicago at home by 13 was a head-scratcher though. They should be even with those guys.
Gordon Hayward is off another great game. He and Jerami Grant are competing for the best free-agent signing prize.
The thing about Hayward is that he gets his without dominating the ball. He takes good shots and is always in control.
That is not necessarily the case for Terry Rozier and Devonte’ Graham. Sometimes those guys are a little too determined to get their own games going rather than play in the offense.
Lamelo Ball is just a rookie and it is obvious that he is good at playing with pace. It is also obvious that he needs to work on his shot and making the next right play, not the flashy play.
This team is one of those with a low floor and high ceiling. You just never know what you are going to get.
Orlando Magic
Times have been rough since Fultz got hurt. They did finally get a win but that was only by a point and against the worst team in the league, Minnesota.
Rookie Cole Anthony is in a tough spot. As a rookie, all you can ask for is a chance to show what you can do. However, in this circumstance, he has been exposed for what he can’t do.
It is not just Fultz’s injury that is hurting the team. The Magic have also lost their frontcourt depth with injuries to Mo Bamba, Chuma Okeke, Al Farouq-Aminu et al. When the Magic have to sub for Aaron Gordon and Nikola Vucevic there are not many good options.
Orlando might have got that one win against Minnesota but is was an ATS loss. They are pretty much an autofade right now.
