Charlotte is in a good spot as they head into the all-star break. The Hornets currently sit in the 8 spot in the Eastern Conference, and they have a great chance of padding their cushion vs. the woeful Timberwolves on Wednesday.
Minnesota is ready to get this first half of the season over with, but to be honest their doesn’t look to be a lot of help on the other side. The T’Wolves have lost their last eight games, but are still just a 1 point underdog in this tilt.
Charlotte Hornets
Is Charlotte vulnerable here? They’ve been on the West Coast the last five games, going 2-3 thanks to wins in Sacramento and Phoenix. The Hornets have 8 days off after Wednesday’s matchup, and could be in look ahead mode.
Charlotte is also a little bit shorthanded right now. Devonte Graham has been out for a while with a knee injury, but he’s been joined by Gordon Hayward (hand) and Cody Zeller (hip) on the sidelines the last couple games.
Charlotte still has plenty of talent to pull off a win on Wednesday, especially against Minnesota. P.J. Washington went for 42 points Sunday vs. Sacramento, but his 3 points on Monday against Portland is a little concerning.
The back court will probably determine the Hornets success in this one. LaMelo Ball has 22+ in three straight, including 30 on Monday. Terry Rozier added 20 vs. the Trail Blazers.
Minnesota Timberwolves
Charlotte will be missing their starting center on Wednesday, which gives some semblance of hope to Minnesota. Karl-Anthony Towns is about the only sure thing going for the T’Wolves right now.
Towns has a double-double in five of the last seven – but that’s expected. Charlotte ranks 18th vs. the C position, but Towns hasn’t broken the 30 point barrier in the last six games.
Minnesota is fairly well rested though, having been off since Sunday’s home loss to Phoenix. The Timberwolves are just 4-12 at home on the season however.
The Timberwolves simply don’t have a lot of scoring options outside of Towns. That’s especially true with D’Angelo Russell injured and Malik Beasley suspended until the end of March. Wednesday’s total is still in the 230s though.
NBA Betting Trends:

- Over is 16-5-1 in Hornets last 22 overall
- Timberwolves are 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games overall
- Under is 5-2 in Timberwolves last 7 home games
Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Minnesota Timberwolves NBA Prediction:
Charlotte has been all over the map lately, literally, with their trip to the West Coast. There’s a very good chance they come out flat in this last matchup before their all-star break.
But how much do you trust Minnesota? They should be a minimum of 5-6 point underdogs every time out, and the fact they are only getting +1 point says a lot about Charlotte.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Under 231.5
Both teams get caught in the look ahead here, which can sometimes favor the defenses as well but not with these offenses.
