Monday, November 28th, 2022, the Charlotte Hornets and Boston Celtics play the first of four scheduled meetings this season. Boston will host again on February 10th while the Hornets will host a baseball series on January 14th and 16th in Charlotte.
Charlotte arrives having last played Friday winning a nailbiter 110-108 versus the Timberwolves while the Celtics are completing a back-to-back set having defeated the Wizards 130-121 on Sunday.
In history, the Celtics own the advantage of winning 71 of the clubs’ 116 meetings. Last season the teams played four times with the Celtics winning three of the four contests.
Charlotte Hornets
For the first time this season, the Hornets strung together consecutive wins. While they got lucky facing the decimated 76ers who were playing the second game of a back-to-back the win versus the Wolves was impressive as Charlotte halted their five-game win streak.
Kelly Oubre (28) and Terry Rozier (22) led the way versus Minny with PJ. Washington (16) and Theo Maledon (14) also registered double-digits.
Steve Clifford also got contributions in other areas as Mason Plumless grabbed 12 rebounds (six offensive boards) and Kai Jones came one point shy of a double-double (9 points, 12 rebounds).
Charlotte scores 109.4 points per game ranking 25th league-wide. From an efficiency standpoint, they allow opponents to shoot 44.4 percent from the field and 31.7 percent from the perimeter ranking 28th and 29th respectively.
Defensively, Charlotte is giving up an average of 114.2 points on average which ranks 17th. Opponents shoot 46.5 percent from the field ranking 15th. One area the Hornets excel at is stopping teams on the perimeter ranking second-best by holding foes to 32.5 percent.
LaMelo Ball (ankle) and Dennis Smith Jr. (ankle) are questionable. Gordon Hayward (shoulder), and Cody Martin (quad) remain out indefinitely.
Boston Celtics
Despite Jayson Tatum sitting out on Sunday with a sore ankle, it did nothing to alter their typical offensive prowess and while the Wizards made it a game with a 33-17 fourth quarter, in truth the match was never close.
Seven Celtics scored in double-figures with Jaylen Brown leading the way scoring 36 points in 34 minutes. Joe Mazzulla didn’t need to tax his group with only three players exceeding 30 minutes.
Offensively, the Celtics are feasting coming very close to the 50-40-90 mark few players achieve let alone an entire team. Mind you they fall short at the free throw stripe (but not by much — 85.2%)
Boston possesses the top-ranked scoring averaging 120.4 per game as well as the best perimeter efficiency of 40.0%. The Bean Town crew ranks fourth shooting 49.0% from the field.
Defensively, the Celtics allow opponents to score 113.3 points per game ranking 14th. Boston allows their opponents to shoot 46.8% from the field ranking 16th and 34.9% from the perimeter ranking 12th overall
Jayson Tatum (ankle is questionable for Monday. Robert Williams III (knee) and Danilo Gallinari (knee) are out indefinitely.

Free Charlotte Hornets vs. Boston Celtics NBA Prediction:
Injuries could play a factor but only in terms of the spread — Tatum would lift the Celtics but the presence of Ball would give the Hornets an emotional and physical boost.
I like the Hornets to keep it closer than 11.5 points regardless so I’m taking the points.
