Tuesday, November 15th, the Brooklyn Nets and Sacramento Kings will meet for the first of two occasions this season. Brooklyn will host the second match on March 16th.
This is the third game of the Nets’ four-game road trip that began with the Saturday/Sunday back-to-back against the Crypto.com tenants as Brooklyn split those games beating the more difficult Clippers (110-95) but lost to the LeBron-less Lakers (103-116).
The Kings grabbed an impressive 122-115 victory versus the Warriors on Sunday.
Last season, the squads played twice with the teams splitting the two contests. The Kings hold the all-time record having bested the Nets in 50 of their 95 matches.
Brooklyn Nets
While there was a sudden celebration for this newfound defensive acumen of the Nets – the fact they allowed the 2-10 Lakers (without LeBron James) to not only beat them but score 116 points reminds me of two things:
- SMALL SAMPLE SIZE!
- Consider the source
More specifically on the latter point – – the five teams Brooklyn held under 100 points include three teams ranked bottom six in points per game: Clippers (30th), Wizards (29th), Hornets (26th) plus the Mavericks (20th), and Knicks (12th).
And, even the Knicks’ ranking 12th is somewhat tainted since five of New York’s six wins are against teams with losing records. That group including the 7-7 Sixers has a cumulative record of 26-57!
Let’s see how well the Nets do when facing teams who score in the top 10. Fortunately for Brooklyn, this Kings team is the only one in that group they’ll face in the next five games (5th – 116.8 points)
But almost half of their matches in the 16-game schedule segment after these next five feature top-10 scoring teams.
Ben Simmons (knee) is questionable for Tuesday while Kyrie Irving remains listed as out under suspension. Also, still no update on a return timeline for T.J. Warren (foot).
Sacramento Kings
Suddenly the Kings are a .500 ball club and have won four of their last five games (three in a row) including impressive victories versus the Cavaliers and Warriors.
As I noted in a prior preview it’s not like the Kings were getting blown off the court. The opening night loss to the Blazers was only by seven points, their worst loss was by 15 points to the Grizzlies (4th game) but the four other losses were between 2 to 5 points.
Sacramento is mired in the Western Conference middle group of eight teams with five to seven wins, who’ve played between 12 and 14 games (Kings/Mavs are the two teams who’ve played 12 games).
Of that octet, certainly, most believe the teams who’ll rise are the Mavs, Clippers, and Pels while it’s anticipated the Thunder and Spurs will eventually parachute out at Wembanyama Avenue.
But, to be fair, this Kings squad has been perhaps the most consistent within the octet, and the longer Mike Brown has with the players it feels like they’ll just continue bonding, learning, and improving.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Nets are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games.
- The Kings are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 7 of Brooklyn’s last 8 games.
- Sacramento is 4-1 SU in their last 5 games.
- The Nets are 6-12 SU in their last 18 games.
- The Kings are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games at home.
Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Sacramento Kings NBA Prediction:
Sunday highlighted how very little leeway the Nets have for error. They sat Seth Curry who is just returning from injury given the back-to-back and his absence felt like the difference in the loss to the Lakers.
Brooklyn has the best player but the Kings are deeper and will cause issues for this newly touted Nets defense to contain.
The opening odds were a pick-em, but now it’s the slight one-point edge for Sac Town — if I’m Mike Brown I’m using this a motivation for the Kings to come out and spank the Nets.
