The NBA season tips off on Tuesday, October 19th with the Brooklyn Nets facing the defending champion Milwaukee Bucks. These clubs are expected to be the cream of the Eastern Conference contenders.
Drama surrounds this first match of the 2021-22 campaign as the Nets enter with Vegas odds makers firmly backing the Brooklyn club as the favorites to win the 2022 title. Those presumptions were based on the Nets roster possessing three superstar talents plus impressive roster depth.
Yet, with Kyrie Irving holding off getting vaccinated the Nets made the decision to keep him away from the club until that issue is resolved. The question is how much Irving’s absence affects the Nets ability to dominate and whether the conflict of daily media queries will impact the rest of the team.
The teams last met in the 2021 Conference semi-finals with the Bucks prevailing in a seventh game that was pushed to overtime and came up one Kevin Durant toenail short of changing the entire outcome of the series.
The Bucks hold the all-time record between the clubs with 104 wins in 179 meetings. Last season the squads played three times with Milwaukee winning the season series 2-1 and every game boasting high scores with the lowest cumulative point tally being 231 points in the middle match (Bucks 117 – Nets 114).
Brooklyn Nets
Even without Irving available this Nets roster is jam packed with talent. Two bonafide superstars will lead the way with arguably the best NBA talent in Kevin Durant and another former MVP, James Harden at his side.
The focus in the locker room and at media sessions will center on the enigmatic guard instead of the overwhelming talent this Nets team possesses.
Durant and Irving led the scoring in 2021 averaging 26.9 points while Harden was close behind with 24.6 points. The trio also dominated the key categories with Harden registering 10.9 assists per game and 8.5 rebounds while KD grabbed 7.1 boards and shot 45.0 percent from the perimeter.
Irving also feasted from the perimeter shooting 40.2 percent and dishing six dimes and 1.4 steals.
Roster shifts were plentiful as Timothe Luwawu-Cabarot, DeAndre Jordan, Spencer Dinwiddie, Landry Shamet and Jeff Green exited for new clubs.
Key additions include 3-point sniper Patty Mills, versatile big man Paul Millsap, and Swiss-army knife contributor James Johnson. Under the radar acquisitions DeAndre Bembry and Jevon Carter could play a major role depending on how the Irving situation develops.
Brooklyn drafted promising rookie Cameron Thomas while LaMarcus Aldridge elected to postpone his retirement and return.
Milwaukee Bucks
While Giannis Antetokounmpo broke through last season to win the hardware he most coveted (Larry O’Brien trophy) he returns this season dealing with most analysts and experts believing the Nets or Lakers will be the 2022 champions.
It could prove to be all the ammunition the Greek Freak needs to fuel his efforts into defending their 2021 title.
Last season, Antetokounmpo led his Bucks averaging a double-double of 28.1 points and 11.0 rebounds plus 5.9 assists, 1.2 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game.
The core is back including Jrue Holiday, Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez and Donte DiVincenzo. Middleton was up to the task of playing Robin to Giannis’ batman averaging 20.4 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 5.4 assists per game.
Holiday is the steadying force on the club with two-way mastery garnering 17.7 points, 4.5 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.6 steals per match.
The players exiting included defensive talent P.J. Tucker (Heat) and 3-point sniper Bryn Forbe. Milwaukee bolsterede the roster signing George Hill, Rodney Hood, and Semi Ojeleye in free agency and added Grayson Allen via trade.
Betting Trends:

Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction:
Antetokounmpo is already saying he’s not content with the single championship and will get his first shot at the team most expect to usurp them in this opening match.
The big question centers on defense for both clubs — will the Nets be able to stop anyone (or need to) and how much will electing to not make many roster tweaks or replace the loss of Tucker impact the Bucks?
