(18-21) Brooklyn Nets vs. Memphis Grizzlies (18-19)
Friday, January 4 finds the Brooklyn Nets facing the. Memphis Grizzlies as they meet for the second and final time in the 2018-19 regular season. In their last game, the Nets took down the Pelicans while the Grizzlies lost to the Pistons.
Last season, the Nets swept the Grizzlies, but Memphis took the initial meeting of this year’s campaign. In a rarity, the teams are tied all-time both with 22 wins of their 44 matches.
This Nets squad is scrappy. It would’ve been easy to throw in the towel after losing eight in a row and losing Caris LeVert for a significant period of the season.
Instead, they responded with a seven game win streak. Following a bit of a regression, they got back on track winning three of their past five games.
Seven different Nets scored in double digits in their victory over the Pelicans. D’Angelo Russell led the way with 22 points and 13 assists while Joe Harris scored 22 points.
The other five players joining the double-digit party were DeMarre Carroll (19), Spencer Dinwiddie (18), Shabazz Napier (12), Jarrett Allen (10) and rookie Rodions Kurucs (10).
Rondae Hollis-Jefferson (strained right adductor) is expected out until mid-January. Dzanan Musa (left shoulder subluxation) is out indefinitely. Allen Crabbe (sore right knee) is also out for an indefinite period.
Caris LeVert (subtalar dislocation in his right foot and ligament damage) will remain out until mid-February which is a miracle given how horrific the initial injury looked.
In something of a rare occurrence, Mike Conley failed to score in the game versus the Pistons. You have to go back to January 27, 2013 for the last time Conley failed to score in a game.
After jumping into the season with a solid showing with a 15-9 record the Grizzlies have won just three times in their last 13 games.
The once top ranked Western Conference team has plummeted to 10th and are struggling to regain their footing.
In spite of this Memphis is only 2.5 games off pace to regain a playoff berth.
Chandler Parsons (right knee soreness) should be back in the lineup by the middle of January although his ongoing knee issues should give Memphis reason to pause over being too optimistic he’ll be available long term.
NBA Betting Trends:
- Grizzlies are 6-4 in last 10 head to head contests
- The teams are 5-5 ATS in their last 10 head to head meetings
- The over-under is 7-3 in team’s last 10 head to head matchups
Free Brooklyn Nets vs. Memphis Grizzlies NBA Prediction:
The initial game this season between the clubs took double-overtime to decide and this match could take on a similar pattern.
4* Free NBA Betting Pick: Nets use pace and perimeter to grab victory
With the odds off I’m leaning toward Brooklyn stealing one at the Grind House. The fact Conley was held scoreless may mean he’s dealing with an injury and if he’s not 100 percent the Grizzlies will be hard pressed to handle the depth of the Nets.
