On Wednesday, March 3rd, James Harden will make his much anticipated return back to Houston since the blockbuster trade sent the former MVP and 3 time reigning scoring champion to Brooklyn. The final days of the longtime relationship were anything but happy days as Harden vocalized his complains and feelings to the media by requesting a trade publicly. The team went only 3-6 with Harden to start the year as he visibly was giving poor effort and playing in poor shape in order to expediate the trade process.
Regardless, Brooklyn gave up a bountiful number of future draft picks and young players in order to get the deal done and it seems to be paying off for them as the team has been playing great ball even without 1 of their 3 all stars Kevin Durant who continues to nurse a sore hamstring. When he returns they could be even scarier.
Brooklyn Nets
After dropping 3 straight games in early February, including an embarrassing 122-111 loss to the conference worst Detroit Pistons, Steve Nash made a statement saying the team would only be as good as they wanted to be. The Nets seemed to have got the message and have snapped into shape rattling off 9 wins in their last 10 games.
With that run they have propelled into the 2nd spot in the Eastern Conference right before the All-Star break and are only half a game back from the Philadelphia 76ers.
All of this has been without All-Star Kevin Durant who was scheduled to miss the final 9 games before the break which means his first action back could be after a total of 4 weeks without game action.
Luckily for Brooklyn the team has 2 other All-Stars including former Rocket James Harden who was just announced as the Eastern Conference player of the month. In his first full month in Brooklyn Harden has averaged 25.6 points, 8.8 rebounds, an East-leading 10.7 assists and 1.2 steals. His shooting splits are 49.1% from the field, 42.9% from 3-point range and 84.7% from the free-throw line.
He recorded 3 triple-doubles in the month to put him at 7 already in his short time with the Nets which is already the second most in franchise history. In his first game in March, Harden continued his high level of play, going for 30 points, 15 assists and 14 rebounds without a single turnover, the first time that’s been done in 44 years.
Houston Rockets
After Houston dumped Harden to Brooklyn the team seemed to be primed for the future with an assortment of acquired draft picks. The Rockets, led by John Wall and Christian Wood, surprised many by going 8-4 in their first 12 games without Harden including a 6 game winning streak to bring the team above .500 at 11-10. Houston fans were excited about the team’s play including some who believed the team didn’t need Harden quite as badly as many thought they did.
However, since then the team has had a painful fall from grace losing Christian Wood to injury, waiving DeMarcus Cousins, and being turned down by Victor Oladipo on a 2 year max deal in route to their current 12 game losing streak. 10 of those 12 games have come by an embarrassing double digit margin.
Houston is now just 11-22 and at the bottom of the Western Conference only above the league worst Minnesota Timberwolves. It has been a rollercoaster season for Rockets fans and it seemed to be all positive just 12 games ago but is now anything but that.

Free Brooklyn Nets vs Houston Rockets NBA Prediction
These are two teams trending in absolutely opposite directions as Brooklyn has won 9 of 10 and Houston has lost 12 straight. After some early abnormalities this is the reality many expected to play out once the January 13th trade was announced.
The return to Houston could be bittersweet for Harden as the limited crowd may be hostile towards their former franchise leader for abandoning them and never fulfilling the dream of bringing home an NBA championship. Nonetheless, Brooklyn is the much better team and should get the win on the road.
